What's your hot take regarding the characters? Rule: Don't mention shipping. This isn't a post for shipping wars, so any hot takes EXCEPT romance.

Personally, mine is that Kouyou and Dazai's relationship is very misrepresented.

I've seen so much media where Kouyou dislikes Dazai because she's protective of Chuuya which is weird. Dazai was around the mafia before Chuuya, so I assume she met Dazai first. Even if she didn't, they obviously respect each other; Kouyou went so far as to trust Kyouka in the hands of the ADA and it was not because of Atsushi's sentimentality and promises to protect her.

Kouyou saw skk evolve and grow together so it'd be weird if she's only motherhening Chuuya throughout it. (This last part may be a stretch since there's no evidence, but I'm speaking generally)

So, I saw this post saying that Chuuya's presence in mersault is purely because of fanservice for chuuya/skk fans and Kunikida should've been there instead. But I don't think that's entirely valid.

I don't see how Kunikida wouldn't be manipulated by someone as intellectually skilled as Fyodor. Fyodor chooses Chuuya because he's a strong ally. But Kunikida just isn't that. He's smart and useful but doesn't exactly change the game.

Not to mention, Dazai and Chuuya commit crimes in that prison- murdering guards, jailbreak, hacking, murdering Fyodor.

Kunikida is an idealist. Why on earth would he condone any of that? Why would he willingly go through it? To save Dazai? They don't nearly have as much trust, history and depth for Kunikida to risk that. Kunikida has absolutely trusted Dazai before but probably not to this extent.

If you really want development for Kunikida, the Manga should explore his feelings of inadequacy as ADA's leader. He should feel guilty for not being able to help in the Fukuchi situation, feeling that he doesn't deserve to be the President in the future. That is the development he deserves, his personal journey doesn't revolve around Dazai.
