Uh, hello guys? Yeah, this question is for you. If you found yourself in Yokohama, which organization would you join? Why this specific organization? Would you be recruited or would you join on your own? Or would you choose a completely different organization?

After rereading the book, it's not exactly confirmed that Dazai was the one who orchestrated the death of the Flags, unlike Detective Murase's death and Chuuya's torture. Actually, there's been so much discourse over whether Dazai planned it or not.

Personally, I don't think Dazai planned it. He and Verlaine made the deal after the Flags were killed. Although Dazai and Chuuya's relationship in this book is a bit complicated, it's pretty clear to me that Dazai cared about Chuuya--to the point that he chose Chuuya over Yokohama so Chuuya could have confirmation that he was really human.

So, I don't think Dazai would let Chuuya's friends get killed.

And even without that, it doesn't make sense for the Flags to get killed considering they were the best of the best. There's no way the Port Mafia would willingly sacrifice five talented members of theirs.

Sure, they might sacrifice one or two talented members of the PM, but five? Really?

Mori could see that. Dazai, who was known to be logical during that time, could see that too.

So yeah.

Anyway, what are your thoughts? And if you disagree with me, I'd like to know why😁

I don't know if there's already been a discussion about this on the sub, since I just recently rejoined, but I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts!☺️

The title basically says it. Almost every other adult character, with a few exceptions, is referred to by their family name, whereas Chuuya is universally referred to by their personal name. Whereas Dazai is always Dazai and never Osamu, even when he was a kid. The other exceptions that I can think of are Ango, Fyodor, and Ranpo.

Also, Chuuya doesn't seem to mind. Like at all. The only time he does seem to mind is that time in Wan when he met Atsushi. He seemed more curious than upset by it.

At first I thought it was Dazai's doing. Like a way to be familiar with friends and slightly insult Chuuya. Then other people took it up like Atsushi mentions in Wan. But that doesn't quite fit. Mostly because of Ranpo. In the Entrance Exam, Kunikida was already calling Ranpo by his personal name rather than Edogawa when Dazai first joined

I'd been checking the way some of the characters refer to others in terms of honorifics for fanfiction purposes and came to the realisation that I don't think I've ever seen or heard Fyodor actually say Nikolai's name anywhere, but I don't know if I'm just missing something. He's said Dazai's, Sigma's and even Chuuya (hilariously seems to call him Chuuya-san, when Dazai's given the -kun treatment). There's a spreadsheet someone made of how characters address each other in the manga but that's way too outdated (it was last updated in 2020 apparently which would put it around volume 20).

So yes, am I missing/forgetting about a particular scene, or has Fyodor really never said Nikolai's name anywhere in the main story? I can't recall if he might've said it in any of the Wan! chapters, mind you.

Hello! I started writing my first ever fanfic today, but im struggling with writing dazai.

I’ve watched the show but I just don’t understand how to write his personality (how he speaks, his mannerisms, etc)

Personally, mine is that Kouyou and Dazai's relationship is very misrepresented.

I've seen so much media where Kouyou dislikes Dazai because she's protective of Chuuya which is weird. Dazai was around the mafia before Chuuya, so I assume she met Dazai first. Even if she didn't, they obviously respect each other; Kouyou went so far as to trust Kyouka in the hands of the ADA and it was not because of Atsushi's sentimentality and promises to protect her.

Kouyou saw skk evolve and grow together so it'd be weird if she's only motherhening Chuuya throughout it. (This last part may be a stretch since there's no evidence, but I'm speaking generally)
