17mo this old sleep regression

Hi. I have been reading some posts here and I think we could use some advice.

We have a 17 montha old baby, he is great. During the days he is a very curious, funny, active kid, but for the past few weeks he has been struggling in the night.

He wakes up screaming and it can take from 1 to 2h30 hours to put him back to sleep, sometimes more, and multiple times a night.

We don't know what to do, we read a lot about bedtime routines, how to not interact with him in this episodes, how to keep the stimulus low, and etc but it's just hard.

He is not used anymore to fall asleep in our arms, before we would cuddle him to sleep taking turns me ans my girlfriend, but now we just put him in the wagon and go for a walk outside .

His bedtime routine is :

- we have dinner around 18/18h30;

- around 19h we start to try to put him to sleep;

- takes 20/40 minutes normally ;

- transition to his bed is normally not an issue;

Around half an hour after sleep he wakes up and it's a fast turn to go back to sleep. But around 23h - 1h he wakes up crying sometimes standing in his crib just screaming. We can't calm him down, he even asks for his mom lap but even when he is there he screams without control . We tried all kinds of solutions, night lamps, low toned music, keep him in his bed, cuddling, walk around the house...

What seems to help is slow paced tv ( I know it's wrong), or me actually playing with him in the living room( still wrong) but that calms him momentarily. The problem his any thing that resembles a bed or we sitting down triggers him. So the tv or playing makes it easy to go back to " I want to sleep " state, then we cuddle him in our bed and he sleeps.

We really don't know what it is causing this , if it's sleep regression, over tiredness, development phase , teething... The only thing we know is we want to help him the best way.

What can we do for our little one ? Any advices ?

Thank you
