France officially increases tuition fees for non-EU students starting 2026
France has now officially standardised the “differentiated tuition fees” policy for new non-EU students entering French public universities from the 2026–27 academic year.
New official fees:
• Licence (Bachelor’s): €2,895/year
• Master’s: €3,941/year
Previously, many international students were paying:
• €178/year (Licence)
• €254/year (Master’s)
What’s interesting is that exemptions still technically exist — but universities can now exempt only up to 10% of non-EU students.
Those exemptions are generally prioritised for:
• scholarship holders
• refugees
• bilateral agreement students
So for students planning France in 2026, university selection strategy suddenly matters a lot more.
At the same time, compared to:
• UK
• USA
• Canada
…France may still remain one of the cheaper study abroad options, especially considering the post-study RECE permit and residency pathways.
Curious to know:
Do you think France will still remain attractive for international students after this change?
