My whirlpool top load washing machine started making a REALLY loud grinding noise while washing. Took it apart and this is what I found.

I washed a load and towards the end it made a really loud grinding noise. I put another load in and after it filled up and started the wash cycle it made the same loud grinding noise. It kept doing it so I turned it off. I put it on drain and spin and it didn’t make any noise. We took it apart and found black stuff everywhere even on the floor. Does anyone know what this could be?
