D’autres avis ?

What are your first impressions of Subnautica 2 so far ?

The game was only released yesterday, but I imagine there are others like me who have already spent a few hours on it.

So, what's your take ? What did you like ? What were the disappointments ? The surprises ? What are you hoping for ? etc.

Personally, I haven't been this excited for a game release since the Outer Wilds DLC came out in 2021... so I was REALLY looking forward to SN2... and there's a lot to say, even though I obviously haven't seen everything and it's only Early Access.

First impression, atmosphere, visuals and technical aspect

First of all, I played for almost 7 hours straight yesterday (it was a public holiday where I am, perfect timing), and it's been a long time since that happened, so I won't keep you in suspense : I enjoyed my time with it overall, even though I wasn't a fan of the introduction.

In fact, I'd even say that in the survival game genre, only this franchise and this formula can give me the feeling I experienced (Grounded to a lesser extent). So there's always that "something extra" that makes the formula work imo, always that incredibly gripping, immersive, and addictive quality.

The game is beautiful, with great overall art direction, depth and verticality, some very colorful areas, others very dark, creatures with very cool designs and concepts, and the same goes for the plants.

So it makes you want to immerse yourself and invest in the world and the adventure, to explore what lies beyond and in every nook and cranny.

We can also talk about the graphics and the technical aspects.
The game is magnificent, the lighting is top-notch, and personally I had no framerate issues with ultra settings.
There's also no (or very little, at least I didn't see any) clipping like in SN1.
That said, I did experience two crashes.

But this brings me to a new point : there are automatic saves. Yes folks ! Gone are the days of losing four hours of your game because you were too immersed to think about saving ! The game saves very frequently, which meant I didn't lose any progress despite those two crashes.

Quality of life and interfaces

Another positive point is that the game has improved in terms of QoL, it’s become more modern.
The two previous SN left something to be desired in this regard, it's better in SN2. I'm thinking in particular of the feature everyone wants now : yes, there's crafting from storage.

Aside from that, you still can't stack resources, but resources and tools all take up one inventory slot (whereas in the other SNs some resources and tools could take two or four slots).
Our inventory is expandable, and there are the additions of things like portable waterproof lockers, which makes everything less tedious than in previous games.

The interfaces, inventory etc are very clean, but perhaps a little bland visually, everything is a bit too much in the same colour tone imo.

Base-building

For the base-building damn... you could tell it was a feature they were really trying to highlight in the game's promotion, and I can understand why : there's a HUGE improvement compared to previous games, and the system seems quite innovative.

I imagine there will be even more possibilities later, but it already offers a lot of freedom, and it's generally very satisfying to build your base more freely, whether it's choosing the shape of the buildings (yes, there are no more prefabs like before), the windows, the immersion chamber etc.
It's really cool, and there's still that ultimate feeling of coziness when you're in your base.
I think this could really become one of the very best game for base-building

́Genetic modification feature

For now, I haven't quite understood the genetic modification system. I haven't figured out if we'll be able to control it or not.
I only interacted once with a certain plant that supposedly allowed me to consume local wildlife without risk of poisoning, but that's about it.

I'll post the rest in another message because it's a bit long.

Eden Crafters 1.0 is here

First of all, no, this isn't an ad, I'm just a random player.
This is just a post to let you know about the 1.0 (it came out yesterday) of a not-so-well-known game.
And okay, it's not exactly a "new release," but I guess the tag could still work for a 1.0 release.

I only played it for a few hours several months ago, and it was a bit clunky but quite fun. I admit I haven't really followed the game's development after that, but I was waiting for 1.0 to dive back in.

For those who don't know, basically it's a mix between Planets Crafter and Satisfactory.
You terraform a planet and set up certain supply chains.
I'm not a fan of factory games, but this one seemed relatively light on that aspect, we'll see.

I don't know if anyone plans to play it, or if anyone has already spent quite some time on it to say how it's progressed during the EA ?

What are the best survival games for each aspect ?

We often see posts and debates about the supposed best survival games, but firstly it's very subjective, and secondly it also depends on which aspect you're judging, the game's purpose and objective etc.

That's why I thought about which game I preferred based on which aspect, and I'm wondering what your personal lists would be ?

Feel free to add or change aspects if you want. And if you'd like to explain your choices that could be cool.

For me, trying to limit myself to 1 "GOAT" and 2-3 other secondary choices :

Best (or more complex) survival mechanics
Project Zomboid
Honorable Mentions : Green Hell / The Long Dark / Hobo Though Life

Best map and exploration
Subnautica
Grounded / Abiotic Factor

Best atmosphere/immersion
Subnautica
The Forest / Green Hell / Grounded
I specify that I avoid mentioning 2 games of the same license for a category, otherwise I would also have put Subnautica BZ, the same for the artistic direction for example

Best base-building/housing
Enshrouded
Minecraft / Vintage Story

Best (or more complex) crafting
Vintage Story
The Last Plague Blight / Nightingale

Best fights
V-Rising
Grounded / Enshrouded

Best art direction
Subnautica
Grounded / Abiotic Factor

Best OST
Minecraft
Subnautica BZ / Core Keeper

Best story/lore/narration
Subnautica
Green Hell / The Forest

Best concept
Planet Crafter
The Alters / No Man’s Sky
And I want to clarify that I'm not judging the quality of execution but only the base concept, the originality of the idea etc. For example, I find The Alters really bad, but its concept is very cool.

Best survival colony sim
Rimworld Stranded Alien Dawn / Going Medieval
