My girlfriend says that autistic traits seem unlikeable. I think that I might have autism, and I'm getting tested for it soon - I'm scared her opinion of me will change!

For context, I've been dating my girlfriend for quite a long time (well, a year). We have always been very similar and she is one of the most empathetic and sweet and lovely people I know, and I really do love her.

But she is very uneducated when it comes to autism, and ADHD, which I am also getting tested for. Both of my parents fall somewhere on the spectrum, and I think I most likely do too. However, we're all very high-masking, and require less accommodations.

I was talking to her about the fact I'm getting tested soon, and she was asking me about autistic "symptoms". I told her the ones most people think of, like missing social cues, not knowing how to respond when people are upset, getting easily overwhelmed and overstimulated, and avoiding eye contact (all of which I experience) and she said that she doesn't think autistic people sound very enjoyable to be around.

I kind of laughed it off awkwardly at the time as i didn't really know what to say, but to be honest i felt really upset about it. Even if i don't have autism, that would mean she views people I love (parents) negatively.

She also said that autistic traits don't seem very likeable, and it kind of hurt. Does that mean that if I do have autism, then she finds my traits "unlikeable"?

I feel anxious.
