Desogestrel long term side effects for weight gain?

Hello, i’m just looking to see if anybody else has had/does have similar side effects to desogestrel. I’m not looking for medical advice, just looking for people possibly in my situation to help me feel less bad about myself.

I have been on desogestrel for 5 years, coming up to 6. I have never been on any other type of birth control, I have only been on this from when I was 15 to now turning 21.

After 3 ish years, my periods stopped completely. It’s now been 27 months since my last period, i’ve never gone to the doctor about it because I just assumed this was normal with birth control. However, in the last 6 months I have been spotting ever so slightly every month. I get cramps for a couple days as if I am having a full period, but i’m not actively bleeding and very faint blood is only there when I wipe. Around the same time that I noticed spotting, I also noticed a subtle weight gain. This over 6 months has now led to me gaining 10kg. I have not changed my appetite/fitness levels and i’m unsure if this weight gain could be connected to my birth control. I tried looking on the NHS website but it says there is not enough studies to see the effects of desogestrol and weight gain long term.

Just hoping that there is somebody out there that can hopefully relate to my situation, and if not i’ll rule my birth control out for weight gain and look at other avenues for possible explanations.

Twisting wire at the back of my mouth rather than cutting it shorter

Hi all! I have had my braces on since august 2024 and I’m getting close to getting them removed. Right now we are just closing a gap since I had my four first premolars removed to help with overcrowding (I think that’s what they’re called?) Usually my orthodontist cuts the wire at the back of my mouth so it isn’t stabbing me in the gums, but today she twisted it and tightened it. Does anyone know why they’ve done that this time, they’ve never done that before and I don’t know if it’s something to do with closing the gap!
