Where can I make more nerdy friends?
Hi everyone!
I realized recently that I’ve been spending a lot of time with my business school friends, and while they’re great, I’m craving nerdier friends.
I don’t mean folks that are into board games or video games (no shade on those - that’s just not my thing).
I mean folks that love talking about ideas, learning new things, and having good-spirited intellectual discussions – especially about economics, psychology, art, and how to live a good life.
For example, here are some of my hot takes that I’d love to bat around:
- Popular art is just as hard – if not harder – to make than “real” art and it deserves more respect from critics
- Romance novels can be bad for heterosexual relationships in a similar way that porn can be
- I don’t think men are trash (even if many can act like trash); I have hope for men and masculinity as a whole
And open questions I can talk endlessly about:
- How do you build a career and a life you love under the reality of capitalism?
- How do you get yourself to do the small basic daily things that are good for you, and why is it so damn hard?
- Why do the worst people always end up in charge and what can we do about it?
Not trying to start a debate based on any of these hot takes; just trying to give a sense of the kinds of things I like talking about!
