Pervy glasses IRL

What are we doing about the perv glasses? I walked down onto the subway platform and a man is staring at me with glasses on. On sit down on the opposite side of the bench and check to see that yes, he’s got the Meta Ray-bans. I get incensed, pull up my phone and take a picture of him while saying, “It’s only fair.” He said nothing.

I had half a mind to announce to the train car that he’d recording everyone but that’s weird and I needed the next train anyway.

I’m not posting his picture because I have more decency than him. Thoughts?

how do you decide if you are burned out by living in nyc and need to move, vs just being in a funk?

Living in NYC was my childhood dream! I've loved it for the past 4 years but as I have gotten older (perhaps more rigid with my routines as well), I've started to feel like the constant stimulation of the city is taking it's toll on me. My quality of life here is objectively worse than it would be if I lived back home on the west coast, simply because I don't make enough to support myself and live super comfortably. My parents help me out a ton which I am so thankful for and is the only reason I can live in the west village, but I feel like a leech as I approach my late 20's. I have been wanting a simpler life as I've come to realize that my main priorities are health and wellness and I have zero desire for any of the late nights and parties. I also am quite jaded about dating here as I've been on SO many dates over the past 4 years. It exhausts me just thinking about it. Can anyone relate or share their own experiences with burnout in the city? I have a few months to decide if I want to renew my lease or move back home.

BWT, WHAT are we doing for waterproof feet these days?

The past couple of weeks, I've gotten completely soaked in the rainstorms, regardless of umbrella/rain coat. In warmer weather like today, what footwear are we wearing to stay-semi dry? Rain boots feel like overkill for summer days like today, what are the warm weather alternatives??

Looking for Experienced Guinea Pig Pet Sitter in Lower Manhattan

I am looking for in home pet sitting/drop in visits for my four, female guinea pigs. I live in NoHo. My guinea pigs live in a large cage, 25% bedding, 75% fleece.

I looked at the possibility of THS but decided against it. I was looking at Rover but it seems to be very dog and cat oriented. I listed my four guinea pigs as a cat, but didn't see any sitters mention caring for guinea pigs.

I want them to be cared for while I am away in October and would prefer someone who knows how to take care of guinea pigs (refill water, comfortable with cleaning up the cage, providing fresh hay, etc.). I saw a similar post about a month ago but that was in Queens and I am in Lower Manhattan.

Financial advisors?

Has anyone had any luck finding a financial advisor? I'm looking for someone who understands ADHD, specifically. I'm not rich and not dealing with a lot of money but, living in one of the most expensive cities in the world, needing to pay for my own health costs, having family rely on me (hello, fellow eldest daughters out there), and needing to move multiple times after being priced out of rent increases.....I'm exhausted. I could really use someone in my corner to be like "you can do this but put X in savings and Y in investment". I've gone through the one available at my work but 'you should invest" is only so helpful when something as small as egg prices fluctuating gives my budget pause.

PCP with up-to-date approaches to women's cardio/heart health?

hi folks - I know there's a lot of threads about PCPs. I've read through them & read a lot of doctor profiles, but could use specific info about this.

I have a family history of heart issues. I'm very active/fit & have a healthy lifestyle but my cholesterol has still crossed the threshold into being high the last 2-3 years; my current PCP of 10+ years has an antiquated approach to it ("if your number on this risk calculator eventually gets past x point, we'll prescribe meds"). I've realized I need to work with someone who's thinking bigger picture, about the long-term effects of this & about newer science around markers that aren't just cholesterol.

anyone have firsthand experience with a PCP who keeps tabs on these things? all recs welcome!

Is there a Don't Date NYC group or somewhere to report bad men? TW: SA

My friend was sexually assaulted by someone she met on hinge the other day. She repeatedly set physical boundaries but he wasn't taking no for an answer and pushed past her boundaries despite her repeatedly asking him to slow down/stop. I also happened to have matched with him prior to this so I'll be reporting him to Hinge (she already unmatched him but is going to reach out to support), but I'm wondering if there are communities where I can share his info so other women know to steer clear. These have existed in other cities I've lived in but I can't find anything like it for NYC from an initial search.

I'm trying to encourage her to do a rape kit and file a police report but she's resistant to taking action due to the fact that the system is historically broken and this man knows where she lives. I have this asshole's full name, address and phone number so...if anyone has any ideas of ways to get some retribution lmk

Fuck men stay safe ily

Sweet, cuddly 2-year-old rescue cat looking for his forever home! (Brooklyn)

Hi BWT! Looking for a forever home for my foster, Jordan Davis (named after the Eagles defensive tackle - go birds) 💚.

He is the sweetest boy who loves head scratches, playing with wire toys, and churus. He’s an absolute lap cat who will purr up a storm while watching Bravo.

He gets along incredibly well with my cat and would do well with another cat or as a solo cat.

If you’re interested (or know someone who might be), you can apply through Puppy Kitty NYC here - https://www.puppykittynyc.org/available-animals#sl\_embed&page=shelterluv\_wrap\_1751838196%2Fembed%2Fanimal%2FPKNY-A-2302

Individual Physical Therapists (not chains!)

Hello! I am once again in need of physical therapy for my very boring office job where I sit at a desk for hours. Specifically, I'm dealing with a ton of hip and lower back pain that I am worried if going to get worse. I've been to physical therapists before at large chains across the city (i.e. Spear) but did not like how I would get rotated around to different practitioners depending on the day, since I would like to progressively build strength with someone over time.

Does anyone have PT recommendations for PTs that operate their own practice or out of a small practice? Extra points if they're located on the UES or are particularly good at handling poor hips/back/posture issues. Thanks!

ASTORIA, QUEENS: Chain grabbers: two guys, one moped, attempted robbery in broad daylight

Attempted to post to Astoria reddit first, but taken down by mods.

Two men (maybe boys or teens dressed in all black) road off the bike lane onto the curb, full speed on a black moped to try and steal my gold chain on 31st Street (under the train tracks) between 31st and 30th ave around 4 PM on Friday.

I’m shaken up— lived in Astoria my entire life and never expected this. A good Samaritan called 911. While waiting for the cops to arrive, chain grabbers looped back around. I immediately began to sprint away, but good samaritan brought me into his building.

Cops didnt show in the 40 mins we waited— my fiance met me and we walked home together. Kept in touch with our new friend and cops never showed up and never returned his calls. Went to the precinct and filed a report— bc I know this will happen again.

I feel terrified walking around my neighborhood. I hesitated making this post b/c I don’t want to be identifiable, but please be aware.

**Young ladies, elderly folk, and general chain wearers—PLEASE BE VIGILANT. Don’t wear headphones and keep your head on a swivel. Police informed me this is an active problem all around the NYC, BK, and Queens.** I always felt safe in Astoria, but this has totally rocked my peace of mind.

Stay safe out there!

Where to donate new skincare & makeup?

Hi, I’m declutterring my place and I have a target shopping bag full of unused skincare, body care and makeup items, most are extras from different beauty boxes I’m subscribed to.

I’d love to find a good home for them for people who will enjoy them, any suggestions as to where I can donate these items? Preferably in BK, Queens, Manhattan or Nassau county area. I know some places have rules about only accepting neutral colors for makeup.

Thanks in advance!

KETAMINE IV THERPY: NYC PROVIDERS / $$

Hi, I just did the legwork to begin ketamine treatment in NYC.
Too soon to say on results for me but I figured may be helpful for others.

Not a perfect overview but helpful for $ transparency / session number etc.

**Especially wanting to note Ember health offer a sliding scale.
I shared the summary page of my taxes and got $200 reduction for every session.
That was huge in making the treatment accessible.

I am being treated by Ember and they are extremely considered, perfect mix of medical and personal. Can't say better things about every doctor / nurse I have encountered.
(Not a paid ad, don't usually post but wanted others in need to feel like a human being navigating the medical / mental health fun house.)

PROVIDER COST FREQUENCY PER SESSION link KIND
Ketamine Wellness NY $ 3,150.00 6 $550 https://ketaminewellnessny.com/pricing/ IV
NY KETAMINE INFUSIONS $ 3,150.00 4 $525 https://nyketamine.com/ IV
EMBER $ 2,475.00 4 within 2 weeks SLIDING SCALE! / 550 booster https://emberhealth.co/pricing/ IV
Nushama $ 4,800.00 6 $165 for the orientation visit and $330 per infusion session. IV

Unsung benefit of living in NYC

Whenever we talk about why living in NY is amazing, I feel like the 3 main reasons cited are food, culture & convenience. When you’re outside the city & say you live here, people will tell you about a meal they had 10 years ago or what museum they can’t wait to get back to or how they love that the corner store never closes.

But mannnn.

The medical institutions are incredible & just by being here, we have access to some amazing stuff. I went onto the government’s clinical trial website last night to see if there was anything interesting for breast cancer & one of the studies I saw was for women who haven’t been diagnosed with BC but have been told they have dense breasts (which I feel like the majority of women have! So why are we still relying on imaging that’s not good for it 😒 but I digress) - the researchers want to do the traditional mammogram on your next visit but also add in an extra type of imaging that may help detection rates. Got me to thinking about how many BWT might be high risk & benefit from enrolling but don’t even know it exists.

Also, the breast cancer study looking at people who don’t have it is a reminder that even if there’s nothing “wrong” with you, you should still pop on there & poke around bc there are such a ridiculous amount of world class hospitals & universities doing work in the area (in every conceivable specialty) that there could still be something that’s applicable to you. Every time you read something like “pairing coloring books with counseling sessions reduced grief twice as quickly in people who lost parents or siblings”, it means some scientists gave some sad people free therapy & colored pencils lol why not you?!

Deep cleaning recs

Hi yall 🤗 I’m searching for a meticulous deep cleaner who services manhattan. I need someone with a sharp eye for detail, not a run of the mill cleaning service. If you could include what you paid that would be helpful too (I’m in a 1 bedroom). Thanks so much!
