Suggestions to improve qualities of posts on sub

First off - thanks mods for creating new categories such as Medical Aesthetics, etc to help corral repetitive posts.

However…
There are plenty of posts a day that are 1) not NYC specific and 2) could be answered with a search of the sub OR Google (ie personal trainer recs, mani/pedi recs, etc). Should there be an additional “if it can be googled please do not ask” rule?

Outdoor Pool Fees

Hey NYCBWT! I moved into a luxury building with an outdoor pool and on top of the monthly amenity fee, they want to charge an early bird fee of $1200 per person per unit to use the outdoor pool or if we don't do the early bird pricing, it will be $2000 per person. There are other prices for monday-thurs pricing but I'm surprised we're being charged at all since we pay a monthly amenity fee. This is my first luxury building so I'm wondering if this is the standard for buildings with outdoor pools. Thanks!!!

Dog boarding - in a person's apartment, house

Does anyone know of a good, stable person who runs a dog overnight boarding business from their apartment/house?

I want: Person place that takes 2-5 dogs at a time. Is a real home, sofas, bed, no cages. Someone who has done this for years as a real business. Knows dogs, understands how they interact with each other. Only takes fixed dogs. Bonus if they are on UWS, Washington Heights, or near the GW in NJ.

I don't want: Someone on Rover doing this in between gigs. A business that takes 10 dogs at a time. A storefront, vet, or warehouse. A place that takes unfixed dogs.

Why is this so hard to find? The few people I know of who do this in my neighborhood are complete weirdos and not nice to the dogs when I see them walking. One yells at the dogs, the other dragged a dog on their back across the pavement in the park!

Housing Works' "Bride on a Buck" returns June 6th

In case you're getting married and looking for more affordable attire and accessories, Bride on a Buck by Housing Works is happening on Saturday, June 6th. Looks like VIB tickets are for early entry are sold out, but regular entry tickets are free and available.

They'll have a lot of new and gently used wedding items for steep discounts. I'm not affiliated with Housing Works, but wanted to pass along the word!

BWTs, what's your ideal NYC one-day shopping route for quality, interesting clothes?

I'm overdue for a warm-weather wardrobe refresh and want to spend one dedicated day shopping in NYC. I'm looking for quality clothes that are classic with a little personality. Not super trendy, not fast fashion, not trying to dress like a 22-year-old influencer. Late 30s, casual office + weekend life. Dresses, rompers, beautiful blouses, light pants, easy city outfits, plus a wedding guest dress. I do a lot of RTR, but I need a little arsenal of longer-term wardrobe pieces I can rely on.

If you were sending a friend out for a day of shopping, where would you tell her to start and where would you send her next? Hoping to break out of the standard Ref/Zara/Everlane rotation and discover some new-to-me brands and shops. (Recently found Rails, for example and that seems like maybe the right vibe, but I haven't been yet.)

I'm petite and non-standardly proportioned, so short-girl-friendly brands/stores are appreciated, although tailoring is probably inevitable.

And before anyone says thrift: I know this sub has amazing thrifting recs, but I'm a working mom trying to dedicate exactly one day to this mission and need a higher hit rate this season. One day I'll return to the racks. Thanks bitches!!!

ETA The suggestions so far are absolutely amazing. Love you BWTs!!

Therapists/Mediators in NYC who can mediate friendship conflict?

Looking for someone who can mediate my friend (43F) and I (32F) friendship conflict? We’ve had our ups and downs the last few yrs, the dynamics of our friendship have changed and we aren’t as close as we used to and we’ve been arguing a lot. We want to sit down and address the elephant in the room but know its best to do w/ a mediator. I guess you can thinking of it like friendship counseling.

Any professionals who feel they’d be a good fit or can recommend someone? Also hoping to find someone of caribbean descent.

Best Eyebrow Shaping - thick grown out brows

Hi guys! I know this has been asked before but after seeing conflicting information about different places, wanted to ask myself

Ive been growing my eyebrows out and haven’t had them done in a year or so. I would love to have them reshaped and evened out and I’m finally ready to get them done and need your recommendations

I have thick brows and my main concern is correcting the extreme unevenness / different shape and arches between the two. Had a horrible experience years ago that ruined my brows, but I believe I’ve grown them out enough to be able to fixed

Thank you so much ♥️

For reference: I saw Sebastian highly recommended and was leaning towards him till I saw someone had a horrible experience with him yesterday

Bathhouse Atlantic Ave

Happy Friday! I went to the new Bathhouse on Atlantic Ave last night. It is amazing! 3 pools, 3 different saunas and a steam room. I haven't been to Aire in Tribeca but I have been to the one in London and it's pretty comparable but music was louder/ more upbeat. Good locker rooms/showers etc...

tattoo artist recommendation

Hey BWT! I’ve been looking for a tattoo artist in the area, specifically for a fern tattoo I want across my chest but would love someone I go to repeatedly. I’ve seen a lot of super fine line artists or artists that are heavy on the shading. I don’t want a tattoo that’s too dark, but I also don’t want a tattoo that looks faded when it’s healed. Do y’all know of any good artists who tend to tattoo in between the two extremes?? Bonus points if they do a lot of nature/animal tattoos. I’m including the one large tattoo I have for reference of what I want. I got it 5 years ago & I love the style & everything about it & want something just as good!! Thanks in advance <3

Where my pregnant ladies at?

I just found out I’m pregnant very recently and am honestly a pretty big drinker and a social gal. How do my fellow city gals navigate social situations here while you’re not ready to tell people you’re pregnant? I feel like diet reasons and pretending to be on antibiotics can only go so far, and tbh I think my friends would know lol. Would love to hear anything and everything you’ve used in the past

Recommendations for dating apps and dating events for a mid-30s bisexual?

I can be sociable, but I'm not very extroverted. I've dated people in the past, but I've kind of given up on finding a relationship organically at the moment. I also avoided dating for a long time because I was very depressed/needed to work on myself.

I did a search of the subreddit, and there's a lot of negativity surrounding dating apps. I've never used one before. Are there really no apps anymore that people have been using with some success these days?

Alternatively, are there dating events that you have enjoyed and/or had success with in recent months/years?

(I am bisexual, but I've never actually had a relationship with a woman before. I don't know if that changes anything regarding recommendations.)

I know dating is a frequent topic on this sub, and I'm sorry for adding to the pile. I just feel very uncertain and demoralized about this topic and would like to hear some success stories from those who aren't so good at putting themselves out there.

Thank you for reading and for any replies.

Scammed at central park

Cant believe im making this post because I always thought myself to be street smart bt I guess a little charity never hurts.

Anyways I was approached yesterday at central park to donate to a sports team so the young athletes can afford some shirts or whatever. I decided to donate a few bucks, tapped my card and for some reason just after he left, I googled it and discovered it to be a massive scam people have fallen for. I immediately locked my card, called my bank to cancel the transaction and monitored the charged. Guess who was charged x5 of the amount I donated

Here's the thing, there were alottt of them at the park yesterday approaching people, they even used kids for this scam because an hour after he left, a little boy came to me to ask for donations. Im making this post to let others know or if you ever donated to check your account

Brows By Sebastian - Bad Experience

Am I the only person who has had a bad experience here?! His reviews both on google and in this sub are glowing. I was thrilled to finally go to my appointment after a few week wait. The experience was less than stellar and I’m so upset with my brows and would never recommend him!!

He reeked of smoke which is unpleasant when someone is working in your face, there was another client receiving a brow tint at the same time so he was basically going back and forth between us (no handwashing!!). He barely asked what I wanted before he just went to town on my eyebrows. They were already on the thinner side to start with and he has ruined months of regrowth and trimmed them so short and poorly with scissors!!! I’m mortified and would never recommend him.

Niche: Good wigs around/under 3K

Hi baddies,

My beautiful mom is in the stages of hair fall from chemo. She’s always had a ton of shiny and healthy hair, so as strong as she’s being during her diagnosis, it’s starting to affect her. I’d love to surprise her with an appointment to get a wig, but I’ve been overwhelmed with options and price ranges.

Any and all experiences and opinions are appreciated🙏🏼❤️‍🔥

start lowballing landlords

EDIT: yes we are all aware of supply and demand, but negotiating price is and always has been a common practice in real estate and many other fields. It’s a millennial/gen z brain rot thing to think there’s something wrong or entitled about negotiating. Also do any of you pay any attention to the news? NYC had the largest negative population growth in the whole country this year. The population here is declining lol.

Another edit: one-off individual actions are cool and all, but what works better is getting involved with tenant organizing and collectively working against the landlords: https://citylimits.org/in-gentrifying-bushwick-residents-new-and-old-unite-to-organize-tenants/

I fear we as a society forgot we can negotiate rent. Obviously, the demand often works in the landlords favor but i see my shitty apartment up there on StreetEasy rn for $400 more than what they offered us to renew and i pray no one accepts that. Please everyone even if you found an okay deal, negotiate!! Offer lower!! Ask for a free month!! I’ve been messaging brokers at apartments I’m not even interested in to put in a lower offer. If this happens in masse it will make apartment hunting easier for all of us <3 In the last month I’ve come across multiple people paying $1900 a month to live with multiple roommates in very mediocre apartments in BUSHWICK. Off the Halsey L no less. No hate to that part of bushwick but a $5700 3 bed 1 bath there is just sickening. Even more sickening is that someone was willing to pay that. The brokers are advertising the apartments for way more than they’ll actually accept, please for the love of god try to negotiate your rent down
