How to not get exhausted hosting in nyc?
Hi bwt, maybe this is more of a rant, but every year I try my hardest not to get irritated by hosting; and I fail. I’ve been in the city 6 years living with my now husband for 3. We have a 2 bedroom in a prime location so we are often asked to host.
I’ve gotten better at saying no to people I don’t really know, but I have a literal string of non stop guests starting form yesterday to November 11, all of them close family or friends I would normally love to host if it was not back to back.
I get so irritable even when I have a good time! I hate having to clean before, making sure we have groceries, etc just in case, and feeling obligated to spend every minute doing something.
I have lived in other smaller cities and find that hosting in nyc just adds an additional layer of stress because people come here to party and go out, which I don’t mind doing, but it’s just a lot of pressure. No one has been crazy about it, we’re all in our 30s, but you know it just feels lame to be like let’s stay home and watch a movie tonight lol. My biggest pet peeve is when people lean on you to plan the whole day
I do go to the office 3x a week but that is not alone time for me at all. I am in a very people oriented role and I’m already evil coming home.
Love living in nyc and feel lucky to have people who want to visit but how to stop feeling so ungrateful and exhausted all the time??
ETA: I’m Indian I cannot say no these are all my first cousins and my brother in law. It’s not an option. Also some of yall are rude, I said I’m ranting and have said no multiple times, it’s just this time I could not with the timing.
ETA: I guess I am a bad BWT because I don’t want to lie lol. I’ve lied many times to friends but I don’t want to lie to my family that I like. Moral of the story is It’s hard to find a balance between being there for your community and yourself! Good night 😜
