Visit of Liverpool's Mayor to New York City Sterling Silver Plaque, 1931

I stumbled across this beauty on an auction of World coins and I couldn't resist. The historic dimension is nice, but it was the design and the rich toning that hooked me. By Oldfield Ltd. in Birmingham. Dimensions: 46mm x 38mm; Weight: 48.41 g. Hallmarks: Anchor, Lion Passant, F.

Right place, right time

I’m fairly self-disciplined when it comes to buying coins, and I only spend big if it’s a silver Commemorative for my nascent set. But when I saw this up for bid, restraint went out the window. It’s a grail coin for me, and one I thought I’d never own. I thought it would go for well north of 3k, but I put in a max bid of 2900 for the hell of it. And I was the sole bidder! I got it for the reserve price if $2500.
