GP trainees Cork, community placement query

I was hoping current or previous trainees might be able to share their experiences regarding:

  • During the community/GP placement years, are trainees often expected to travel far outside Cork city (for example to neighbouring counties such as Kerry, Waterford, or Limerick)?
  • Or are most placements generally within commuting distance of Cork city?
  • How long are the GP/community placements usually for? Are they longer blocks (eg 6–12 months), or are they shorter rotations similar to SHO hospital jobs (eg 3–4 month rotations)?
  • How frequently do trainees move practices during the community years?

We have a small baby and we're considering how we should plan our accomodation needs for the training programme ahead.

Cork accomodation help

I am starting my training coming July, relocating to Cork with my family of 3 (small baby).

Seeking advice - does anyone know of :

  • useful WhatsApp/Facebook rental groups,
  • reliable letting agents,
  • or optimistically, if someone has a rental offer please DM me

Many thanks!
