What's up with the bullying, disrespect and blatant unprofessional behaviour with hospital staff

I worked as a clean in a hospital for a few years before starting my electrical apprenticeship, and I have never seen bullying as bad in my life. Not even in a construction site. It was absolutely mad

Here's the thing about being a cleaner, people often overlook you. You are always in the background and a fly on the wall, and as a result, you see everything.

And to be honest, I personally never got abused, and people were friendly enough, but the egos on some doctors and even junior doctors are off the charts.

Has anyone in this sub dealt with that type of thing, and what's your insight from actual being involved with this dynamic.

I've only witnessed it from the outside.

Housing Dublin

Posting here as I’m feeling really demoralised with the current housing situation.

Am in a really awful housing arrangement at the moment and don’t think I can stay there much longer despite it being commutable.

I have been looking in daft plus doctors res Facebook for months and didn’t manage to find a good option. I’m feeling really deflated by it as my housing is affecting my every day life at this point - how dues anyone find anywhere?

The HSE Feels Like an Apartheid System for International Doctors

Don’t come to Ireland as an IMG unless you know exactly what you are walking into.

The HSE runs on international doctors, but too often treats them like disposable rota cover. You are useful when the ward is short, the rota is unsafe, and the service is collapsing. But when it comes to training, progression, support, or protection, many IMGs are left alone.

Hard work will not automatically protect you. Staying late will not guarantee respect. Covering gaps will not mean the system will care about your future.

Local graduates usually know the system, have networks, and understand how to move forward. IMGs are often expected to carry the workload, stay quiet, and figure everything out the hard way.

So my advice is simple: don’t come unless you have no better option, a clear exit plan, or a very specific reason. if the system is using you. YOU better use it back.

The HSE needs IMGs. That does not mean it values them.

GP training vs SHO post

Are the chances of getting a GP training post in Ireland higher than getting an SHO post for someone applying from outside the country? I am already IMC-registered with about one year of experience.Ive been applying for almost 2 years for SHO posts with no luck. Is GP application worth trying?

Parking in tallaght

Changing over to Tallaght and wondering what the situation is with parking at the hospital.
Is there ample parking?
Is it free or paid?
Anywhere else close by I could park if there are limited spots in the hospital and how much is that?

Thanks .

How difficult will the path be for non eu with eu diploma?

Hey guys I am a 4th year student studying in Romania in English with eyes set on working in Ireland after graduation in a few years God willingly. I am proficient in English and don't mind working in any remote town or village just to get a foot in the door.

What active steps can I be doing now if any as a student to help better my chances of finding work after the 6 year MD program? Research or extracurricular programs?

According to the rules I saw graduates from Romania are eligible for general registration and do not have to take the intern year. Correct me if I am wrong. So what's the likely process to get an offer?

I don't mind toiling for a year just to get foot in. My sights are set on Ireland right now

SHO to Reg position

Hi everyone!

Just in a dilemma here. Cureently an SHO scale 3 with 6 months ED training. Offered to take up a Reg level post in a week’s time and will be bumped up to Reg 1 scale. Just wondering whether after tax the take home salary per month would be worth the progression?

Thank you.

TSS Changeover

I submitted my application 3 weeks ago but it hasn’t been approved by manpower yet. Does anyone know what happens to the budget if the application isn’t approved before changeover? Hope I won’t miss out on access to this year’s funds.

Would u choose the Public only Consultant Contract, or the older ones if your were given the choice?

Just curious to see what people think, and whether they would choose the older contracts, because Im just after reading the RTE article about the uptake of the new contract with older consultants and it seems like a good uptake in Dublin but less so in other places

Looking for Accommodation / Housemates in Galway

Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I have both accepted intern positions at Galway University Hospital, and we'll be moving to Galway soon.

We've contacted quite a few landlords and agencies over the past few days, but unfortunately we haven't had much luck getting responses. We thought we'd try posting here in case anyone is in a similar situation.

  • If you're also looking for accommodation and would like to team up to rent a place together, we'd love to hear from you.
  • If you've already secured a house or apartment but are still looking for housemates, please feel free to reach out as well.

We're both doctors, clean, quiet, non-smokers, and respectful tenants. We don't have any pets and are happy to provide references if needed.

Our budget is flexible, so we're open to different options.

If you know of any available properties or have any leads, we'd really appreciate your help. Thanks so much!

Last minute change to starting rotation as an intern

Hi,

I’m an incoming 2026 intern who was meant to start in a vascular surgery rotation. Today, admin told me that the post was advertised incorrectly and that the vascular rotation should actually have been an anaesthetics rotation.

What are people’s opinions on this?

I’m still unsure what I want to go into next year (BST vs CST), but I was keen to do the busy vascular rotation during the 2026 training year. Is anaesthetics generally much quieter? Has anyone done an anaesthetics intern rotation and found it beneficial?

update: thanks all for the replies and insights, I will be going ahead with the anaesthetics job

So... is anyone actually letting people into the Doctor's Res group?

It's been more than one week at this point since I applied to be let into the group chat with others waiting for even longer. I know they warn that they can only let in a certain amount of people in per day but I'm unsure if someone is actually even working on that.

Recommended courses/diplomas for Emergency Medicine

Hi, I'm one of the new interns and really want to get on the EM scheme, but my grades in Med school were awful. Are there any courses, diplomas or other pathways people can recommend for improving my career progression?

TSS Leftover - ideas?

Hi, another year that I haven't used my TSS to the full :( I have 600 euro left as I was part-time for half the year, so not entitled to the full amount. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could use it for before changeover? I was thinking a print subscription to a journal might be nice. I'm about to start GP scheme. Any question banks that will be useful for the year that I could buy now? Or does anyone else have any bright ideas of things that are usually accepted! Always feels like such a waste not to use it all. I would even appreciate what people often use it for to have in my head in the future. I know conferences etc. Thanks!

IMO useless with pay scale query.

Returning from overseas having done reg role for 16 months.

NCHD contract states “An NCHD who takes up appointment as a Senior House Officer having previously held a Registrar post will be placed on the equivalent point of the SHO salary scale.”

IMO saying as haven’t completed 24 months post internship can’t be placed on reg scale. (24 months would in fact be be done this July). Says Irish law says must complete 24 months post internship to progress to registrar.

Issue is that not asking for registrar role in Ireland but SHO level to equal the first reg step as have being that role for 16 months now and going into a scheme so have to go down to SHO.

they are only offering the SHO step as year since completing internship so step 3 rather than reg 1 equivalent of step 5

Any advice on other contacts or dealing of people within IMO other than the general enquiry email.
