Applied from UK to Irish Med via CAO (RCSI / UCD / TCD)? Quick question on 2nd Language requirement!

Hey everyone,

Hoping someone who applied (or is applying) to Irish medical schools (RCSI, UCD, UCC, Galway, Trinity) from a UK A-Level background via the CAO can clear something up for me!

My question is specifically about the Second Language requirement:

I only have GCSE English Language and no other foreign language at GCSE (no French, Spanish, German, etc.).

  1. Is a second language GCSE 100% strictly required for CAO A-Level applicants to RCSI / NUI universities?

  2. Has anyone without a foreign language GCSE ever applied through the CAO for Medicine and passed matriculation, or will the CAO system automatically filter me out?

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,
I just won an eBay auction for an Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (2019) for £270. I’m coming from a very old Lenovo V310 i3 Windows laptop with 12GB RAM, so I'm looking for a major upgrade on a tight budget.
The Specs of MacBook Pro:
CPU: 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 (9th Gen)
RAM: 32GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Storage: 1TB SSD
Graphics: Intel UHD 630 / Radeon Pro 560X 4GB
I know this is the last of the Intel 15-inch models and that Apple Silicon is the standard now, but given that I don't have the budget for an M1/M2 with these high RAM/Storage specs, did I get a good deal?

How do I study medicine without a third language?

I am very sorry if this is the wrong page for this question…I moved to Ireland and I’ve been here for two years but I am exempt from studying Irish, now I plan on studying medicine and while choosing my choice subjects I found out I need to have a third language to study medicine, I was never aware of this if not I would’ve picked a third language in the junior cert now I am in the leaving cert and i don’t have a third language how do I study medicine without one? Do I have to just wing it and try a new language? I know a bit of french should I try it or is that too risky for my points?

Just to clear up since I am exempt from Irish in my case I’m talking about a SECOND LANGUAGE
