I’m planning to start BEng (Hons) Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering at IIT.
Before I commit to a 4-year degree, I want to hear some real and unbiased opinions from people who are already in the tech industry or studying/working in AI, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.
AI is growing insanely fast right now, but at the same time, the industry is changing very quickly. So I’m genuinely wondering:
👉 Does AI & Data Engineering have a strong future, or could the job market become saturated?
👉 Will this degree give me good career opportunities in Sri Lanka and internationally?
👉 For a fresh graduate, are there actually enough entry-level jobs in AI/ML/Data Engineering?
👉 How future-proof is this field compared with traditional Computer Science/Software Engineering?
👉 If you had to choose a degree today with the goal of having a strong career for the next 5–10 years, would you choose AI & Data Engineering?
I’m not looking for the usual “AI is the future bro” answers 😅
I’d genuinely like to hear the good, bad, and ugly — especially from people who are already working in the industry.
Would you personally recommend this degree in 2026? Why or why not?
Hello guys, I need some advice regarding my career.

I'm planning to join IIT, but I'm confused about choosing between BSc (Hons) Computer Science and BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

I'm very passionate about technology and have been interested in tech since my childhood. That's one of the main reasons I'm considering Computer Science.

I would appreciate advice from current IIT students, graduates, Computer Science students, AI & Data Science students, or professionals working in the industry.

How is the current job market for these fields? Which degree would provide better career opportunities and long-term flexibility? Would you recommend Computer Science or Artificial Intelligence and Data Science?

Also, is IIT a good choice for these programs, or should I consider other universities as well?

If you think there are any other degree programs that might suit my interests and career goals better, please feel free to recommend them and explain why.

Any guidance, experiences, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hello everyone, I am an A/L Physical Science stream student, but I haven’t been able to perform very well academically. Because of that, I have already accepted that getting into a state university may not be possible for me. While researching alternative pathways, I learned about foundation programs, and I realized that through this route, I can still obtain a degree. That’s why I am now looking for proper guidance. I am genuinely interested in Electrical Engineering. Since pursuing Electrical Engineering directly through A/L results is difficult for me, I started searching for options that allow me to study engineering without relying solely on A/L performance. So far, I have found the following programs: SLIIT City University – BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Liverpool John Moores University) NSBM – BEng (Hons) Electrical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering (Plymouth University, United Kingdom) APIIT – BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering (University of Staffordshire) Apart from these, if you know of any other engineering degree programs (for example, programs offered by institutions like CINEC or similar universities), please let me know. About myself: I am a tech enthusiast, but I don’t want my career to be purely software-based or purely hardware-based. I’m looking for a career path that combines both sides in a balanced way. Based on this, I would really appreciate your guidance on what path and degree programs would suit me best.
