Help with CPU compatibility

Hi all!

Possibly a stupid and annoying question (I'm getting mixed messages from google) but a while back I decided to get my first PC, and in the end I ended up buying a pre-build for ease. Whilst I don't plan on changing it for a while still, I have been researching different paths to go down in the near future, and have landed on upgrading from a 1070 with an Intel 15-8500T, to the 3060TI/3070 and an Intel I5-12400F.

Is the I5-12400F compatible with my AsRock H310M 1151 9th Gen Motherboard? google would suggest so, and the board appears to have the correct components to support it, but the product compatibility on the manufacturers website doesn't list it as a compatible CPU, and its 12th gen rather than 8th/9th.

Would it be worth changing the motherboard if they aren't compatible? And if so what else would that entail replacing? If that would take a lot more than just installing a new board, then what would your alternative CPU suggestions be that still work well for the 3060TI/3070?

Here is the company's website listing for the PC, although it differs slightly in reality (8500T, 32GB RAM, motherboard is listed as PRIME H310-F, with developer ASUSTeK computer INC. in system information)

GeForce Gaming PC - Bedrock Computers

GPU (Graphics Card) EVGA GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5
CPU (Processor) Intel i5-8500 6 Cores, 4.1GHz boost (full TPM2.0 support)
RAM (Memory) 16GB DDR4 2666MHz Team T-Force
Primary Storage 500GB Kingston 2.5” Solid State Drive
Secondary Storage 500GB WD Blue Hard Drive
Motherboard AsRock H310M 1151 9th Gen Board (can support up to i9 9900K)
PSU (Power Supply) Vida 750W 80+ Rated
CPU Cooler Intel Stock CPU Cooler

Sorry for any inconvenience, confusion, or neglected info, I'm still pretty new to all of this, and have only got the start of the PC building bug since I bought it!
