Feral cat euthanized during neuter for wound

Hi all!

My mom trapped a feral cat she has been feeding to neuter him. She went through a clinic that specializes in TNR and I’m not sure what she signed when she took him in this morning.

She had made a room up for him in her house and was going to attempt to tame him after the surgery, and had a backup plan to release him if he didn’t eventually come around.

She received a call a few hours after dropping him that they euthanized because of this wound on his leg. She was pretty shocked that they didn’t call prior to them doing this. She was pretty upset and we had a conversation about how TNR cats aren’t really owned animals, she gets it, she’s just really sad. I’m not sure if she communicated that she was planning on keeping the cat in her house and observing him (as well as you can observe a feral cat). She wasn’t aware of the wound before she dropped him off.

Was this appropriate? Thank you in advance for any insight
