Some fics I've liked recently

make my heart leap under your skin by ferocious_mermaid

>Summary:
Captured from his home, Harry is brought to the Citadel and spends a year in the stables as a slave before discovering a soulmark he never knew he had.
Even worse - he notices that the Emperor bears the same mark.
Harry tries to avoid detection, but is discovered and taken to the Palace, where he learns the truth about his past - and that being soul-bound does not guarantee having anything in common with his supposed soulmate.
Should he remain in the Palace’s gilded cage, or risk everything to escape and discover who he truly is?
And will Tom ever see him as more than a wild creature from the North?

Really enjoyed this. Emperor Tom who thinks he's hot shit. Enter Harry, his destined soulmate who refuses to behave how he's supposed to behave. It's funny, cute, plotty, angsty, everything. Also, I really love a sassy Harry and an arrogant Tom.

Thunderstruck by Divida

>Summary:
On the verge of his greatest triumph, sixteen-year-old Tom Riddle is suddenly pulled from his timeline and dropped into a strange man’s bedroom. The man shows him something he calls the Resurrection Stone, and insists Tom has been dead for years—that he’s simply an abnormally solid ghost from the past.Tom has no intention of accepting any of it.

5 chapters so far and seems really fun. I always enjoy fics with Tom in Harry's era and this one is no exception. Both of them are characterized really well and there's plot!

What the Bone Retains by Tyelper

>Summary:
Bereft of his parents, Harry is forced to seek refuge with his relatives, the Dursleys, alongside his foster brother, Tom. Yet, the Dursleys cast covetous eyes upon the Potter estate; they stop at nothing to strip Harry of his birthright and cast out the meddlesome Tom.

A Regenecy era non-magic AU? A Wuthering Heights coded Tomarry fic? Inject this shit into my veins.

The Serpent's Captivation by RainbowTraveler

>Summary:
Ron Weasley is a beta with a hopeless crush on his best friend, but Harry continues to dodge questions about the mysterious person he's been spending so much time with, and when the truth finally comes to light, jealousy takes hold, and Tom Riddle knows exactly how to push every one of Ron's buttons.

This has both TR/RW and TR/HP tagged. It's from Ron's POV and his jealousy over Harry's relationship with Tom. It's still in early stages so I don't know which of these ships the fic will lean into more going forward but it's pretty well written so I'm including it. You can look at the tags and see if you want to read it.

Kitties and Crowns by FuzzyDreamin : Completed

>Summary:
Fifth year Harry Potter was known only for being the outcast, mudblood of Slytherin and also an immense bookworm, While sixth year Tom Riddle was of course the most popular kid in school. Harry however had never much liked Riddle, watching him like a hawk and waiting for him to do something suspicious, he was probably the only kid in school who would not bow down at Riddles feet, and mostly not worth the effort to force him to do so. Which is surprising seeing as Harry has a HUGE secret crush on him. So what is in store for these two very different yet so very alike boys?

A old fic I read and liked. Same age Tom and Harry. There's no Voldemort so Tom is saner. Cute development between the pair. What I liked was it starts pretty normal and is cute and fluffy but the tone definitely shifts towards the end. The fic deals with some heavy themes in the second half and I found the ending very poignant and sweet.

Carrier Pigeons by TitleFought

Summary:

>

>Or, Harry grows up in the muggle world, never receiving his letter to Hogwarts, unknowing of the magical world. He lives a lonely life, finding companionship in the birds on Privet Drive. He begins to train carrier birds to deliver messages to no one in particular.
That is until Tom Riddle begins to write back.

What the summary says and I'm really liking it so far.

vicious things by bluebeardsbride

>Summary:
Harry is finally in a committed relationship. Harry is going to get married. Harry is content.
But when a chance encounter reveals his future father-in-law to be his ex-lover, Tom Marvolo Riddle, he is left scrambling to reassemble the pieces of his new life that no longer seem to fit.
It doesn't help that Tom is intent on playing his own game of hedonism, seducing Harry at every turn to participate and shed his ill-fitting sheep skin.
How low can Harry go, when his conscience keeps dropping the bar every time he gives in?

So a cheating fic. But between Tom and Harry. Both of them are kind of reprehensible in this for obvious reasons. But still sympathetically portrayed. Not to mention the smut.

Some utterly shameless smut on which I won't elaborate:

Things Worth Keeping & All the Precious Things by Everettevans

Not sure if they've been recced here because I couldn't find anything. Both the fics are so well written!

Things Worth Keeping

Okay I love a cold and in-control Tom but I love a Tom who's struggling in the wizarding world even more. His realization that he's a nobody both in the muggle world and at Hogwarts, combined with his class differences with his peers, and most importantly Harry is explored very well. And Harry is so damn sweet yet oh so oblivious. It's a timeline mashup fic and completed!

Summary:

Tom Riddle owns one good quill, given to him by a boy who had so many he didn't bother to count. It was the first entry in the ledger.

Every gift Harry Potter gives him (the quill, the book, the ink, the gloves, the robes) gets a line, and Tom pays it back the only way he can: fixing Harry's homework, earning his marks for him, and eventually, kissing him on a cold balcony because twelve Galleons' worth of dress robes demand a currency beyond essays.

Harry thinks they're falling in love. Tom thinks he's staying solvent.

This is the story of every object between them, and the moment Tom finally stops counting.

All the Precious Things

This one has Harry and Tom grow up together at Wool's. There's no time travel and it's fem Harry. I know people usually dislike this trope but this one has lovely characterization and is recognizable as Harry. Also, the fic is definitely for the cold and calculated Tom lovers. Dude has his priorities (Harry) and does not budge lol. Total boyfriend material in this one if you ignore all the blackmail and murder (like Harry). But Harry's also not a pushover and has her own character arc. Seriously, read it. It's great.

Summary:

Tom Riddle kept everything that was his in a box beneath his bed: a tin soldier, a green marble, three buttons, and a red ribbon stolen from the suitcase of a girl who arrived at Wool's Orphanage on a Tuesday in November.

She was not crying. She was the only one who never did.

He kept her, too. He just didn't use a box for that.

up all night to get lucky by purplestormsnail

link

Brilliant, funny, cute and plotted to perfection. One of my favourite reads!

Summary:

Everyone always says Harry Potter has unnaturally good luck, but he’s not convinced. He’s nothing special, just your average bloke trying to make his way in the world.

Tom Riddle, top-ranked professional poker player, makes his own luck, thank you very much. And he isn’t about to let anyone get in his way.

When a business trip, a poker tournament, and adjacent rooms in Caesar’s Palace set these two stars of fortune on a collision course, what happens next is very unlikely to stay in Vegas.

This series by darklordtomarry is such a gem! Tom and Harry's characterizations are similar to what I've read before and yet somehow so unique. If Grey Harry/Dark Harry, without completely detaching from his canon self is your jam, then trust me this is the fic for you. I also generally dislike pureblood culture but boy does this fic really delve deep into the politics of it all, and I mean deeep. It has a Slytherin Harry, James & Lily are alive in this AU and the fic does a great job in examining how the small house change would affect everybody.

I really can't say more without spoiling it because this fic deserves to be read for its character progressions alone but also because it has an awesome villain that actually gives our characters a challenge. The first part starts out one way and it may or may not be your preference but the second part is where it all starts coming together. All the other characters are also so great and it's one of those fics where you sympathize with every changing POV. There's no clear cut narrative stance and I'd say it's pretty realistic. It's also not afraid to make a fool of it's characters, for example, Harry is smart but he's still a teenager and therefore has the cockiness of youth; Tom is brilliant but he has his blind spots, etc. It's clear they are not always in control so there's always a tension underneath and I was genuinely worried for the characters.

I had (wrongly) assumed it would be a simple royalty fic but wow what a surprise.

Some other things: 1. Tom & Harry's relationship is fast burn
2. it's WIP/unfinished and I don't know if it will be finished (but it's worth it imo)
3. the fic can be humorous but is dark at times. It explores themes of bigotry and it gets pretty rough at points so if that bothers you, you can watch out for it
