First go at a public charger
Did a 230 ish round trip yesterday up from Newcastle to Scotland with the bikes on the back.
Chose a place to park with a destination charger however as we pulled in someone was just plugging in so we must have missed it by about 5 minutes.
Arrived there with 30% charge and it was showing a bit less at 26% when we got back to the car for some reason.
So that was using 39 kw for a trip of roughly 110 miles or 2.8 miles per kWh.
My husband decided on the way back that there was a 5 guys up the road and there were some fast chargers there, they didn’t show on my Electroverse app (I don’t think GRIDSERVE do) but ok, off we went.
First one I tried didn’t seem to want to pick up my credit card so I downloaded the app and tried using that, it worked, plugged it in then it sounded like the unit tripped. It gave an error and the unit basically said out of order.
Tried the next charger along, same thing. Tried holding it in place whilst it was connecting to the car, no joy there either.
Went and got my burger and some of the cars parked at the other units had left, moved the car to one of those and it worked no issue.
Topped up to 86%, adding 28 kWh to see me home.
Went home via the A1 which was a slightly longer drive at 117 miles, arrived home with 6%. 41.5 kW used or the same 2.8 miles per kWh figure.
Total cost of trip was £27.60 or 12p per mile.
Would avoid GRIDSERVE in the future, naff experience moving from charger to charger for a successful charge and a big shame there weren’t enough destination chargers at our parking location.
