The Oldest Surviving Cache in New Zealand- Geocache by Kevin Anderson (GC46)
I’ve been meaning to find this one ever since I discovered it was only a short car journey from my parent’s house.
Yesterday, the timing seemed right- it was dry, not yet too cold from the approaching winter and I had time for a bit of a wander. The shortest distance to GZ from the carpark is a decent walk along a flat service road and across a suspension bridge over a river. I took the long way, however, as up in the hills, up and down the steep bush walks (my poor legs!) of the reserve were several other caches to find, of which I found 3.
I left Kevin for last. After emptying water from the divot in the lid, I discovered a big container full of ziplock bags, TBs and rocks. After signing and replacing, I gratefully took the bridge and road back to the car. A tiring but satisfying day!
Oh, and did I mention it happened to be the cache’s 26th birthday? Happy Birthday Kevin, and TFTC!
