Pole holder in car

Does anyone have any suggestions how i can secure this plastic seat belt trim so i can add weight to it (i have a pole that i need supported) or how i can secure something to hold the pole from inside?

The other end of the pole is supported on the cab shelf and with a hook on the handle about the rear passenger door.

Asking here as car campers are a creative bunch and so i can take my pole leaving space for my bed/ sleeping

Thanks

Working on a small event for some friends, involving finding caches around our city

Hey Y'all. I'm a Storyteller for the table top system Chronicles of darkness, and I've been writing up a module that I'm proud of, so I'm expanding the game to include real life. The idea is to place caches that if players find, they can earn things in game, or trigger events in the ARG that's happening in setting. This would be my first time doing something like this, and how would I not get arrested for placing said caches?

Weird cache

I'll preface with, geocaching is a super cool hobby, I don't really participate, but often come across caches while foraging (and don't disturb them). Most I find are pretty well hidden and responsibly sealed.

This one has no reference marking except for a "geocaching.com" sticker on it, and this one kind of bugs me, highly visible from the main trail,it's huge and most of that area is private property. Can anyone identify what type of cache this would be? Or if the flamingo marking references anything? Thanks for the help!

Geocaching in Sofia… its dead (or brainrot)

Geocaching in Sofia has been dead for the past 10 years and it’s one of the saddest things ever.

Geocaching might be one of my favourite activities ever. I have a decent amount of geocaches (or used to). But I noticed a problem.. all my caches were disappearing. And I found out why - there is some loser who for the past 10 years has non stop stolen all Sofia caches. Now looking at my other caches I am brought to tears because of what would have been?

Does this happen anywhere else? Any tips on things you can do to prevent?

just realize how rare this geocache is(mine)

I have this geocache hidden under a bridge next to the border of the forest, and I just realized how rare this GZ code is for it, the GC code is GCBJEAN! This cache is located in Collierville, Tennessee for anyone who wants to find it.

Reviewer noting question

I was looking for something containing the word "abyss" (lots out there!) and stumbled on this one: https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC9FBMQ_on-the-edge-of-the-abyss

It's not in my area but I noticed it was disabled. Then I noticed it had only two DNFs, from low-ish find counts. Now, I am NOT saying it's there - I have no idea - but I thought the protocol with reviewers was to put a reviewer note FIRST for owner attention and give it thirty days before disabling. That's what ours do and it seems fair. I also get that it is possibly an inactive CO but it struck me as a bit unfair to go straight into disabling something that hasn't got more than 2 DNFs and wasn't flagged by a finder. We have COs here that often need that 30 day buffer if they have got personal issues or are away etc.

In our world this immediate disabling & likely archiving would (usually does) lead to geo-trash. When we can we will find archived caches that appear to still be there and we CITO out the find, after claiming of course. 😄 Thoughts welcome, but especially from the reviewers that are regulars in this sub. Thx.

How far is too far?

We all know the general rule is, when placing a cache, it should to be somewhere you can routinely perform maintenance on -- no 'vacation caches', etc. -- but what is the consensus of the crowd for what a reasonable distance is?

Was looking at logs on a local cache I was going to go search for this weekend, and a comment made in an owner maintenance log kind of rubbed me wrong, and got me looking at his profile. The comment was "Thanks to those who replace logs instead of complaining like newbs. They all get wet eventually." - and it really didn't sit well with me.

Now, I don't have a problem adding a fresh logbook/sheet to a cache if I have materials with me, but if the container is leaking, a cache owner shouldn't expect everyone else to do his/her maintenance for them. I don't believe in "community maintenance" such as replacing containers, etc., I feel it only promotes and encourages bad cache ownership.

In this case, looking at the CO's profile, he's got 245 hides, mostly in small cemeteries scattered over much of the state - an approximately 160 mile wide area. Sure, maybe he's in sales and travels the state regularly, but maybe not.

Years ago, I got questioned by a reviewer for placing a cache in my hometown, 90 miles from where I was currently living - and it was only approved when I was able to explain that my parents still lived there, and I was 'home' at least once a month.

I don't really plan to do anything in this case - the cache in question has several "Found" logs since the owner maintenance log, but it did get me thinking. Curious what others think...

Geocaching in south(ish) GA- any friends ?

Hey friends !

I just joined this page bc I just got back into this super fun hobby! I also got a geocachers starter kit last year with 2 geo tags and a container with logs! I STILL haven’t used them bc I fell soo far behind in caching BUT I’m trying to get back into it now and would love if anyone in the south Atlanta area wants to try and get groups together to go ☺️

Looking for long distance geocaching friends :)

Hello! I am a geocacher from Singapore! After geocaching outside of my home country and making a few friends overseas from this hobby, I realised that I love going to my dashboard and seeing what kinds of caches my friends have been finding.

So I was wondering if anyone here would like to be geocaching friends. I don't have many friends on the app so I would love to expand what I see on my "latest activity" dashboard 😄 There's something so cool about seeing someone find a cache at the same time as you, but halfway across the globe.

Good day, and thank you for reading my post!

Edit: I'll add everyone tomorrow morning muahaha there's never too many friends so keep em coming! I'm so happy that there are people out there willing to be my geocaching mutual

Caching in VA

Anyone else having problems getting approval in VA? I've had AMAZING caches getting denied due to reviewers citing VDOT on walkways or required approval from parks even if the cache isn't in a park. I'm getting discouraged. Does anyone else have this issue in their area or is it just VA?

Puzzle Box buying recommendations

For those of you who have put combo locked containers inside of an ammo can as a puzzle cache, what containers are you buying to fit inside? I’m seeing a lot of 3 digit combos like cash boxes but not really any 4 digit combos. I made a cache about a month ago with a 4 digit combo locked box on the inside but I built the inside box to fit perfectly.

Dilemma with a TB

Came across a TB last month that is Texas-themed, but just now read its goal. It wants to go back to its home geocache in Denver. I’ve never been to Denver and don’t see any possibility I’d be traveling there in the near future, but I am traveling around Texas and to South Carolina this summer.

The CO did specify you can either move it closer or mail it back to them as their kids want their TBs back eventually. One finder mistakenly forgot about it and did not release it back for 3 years, so I felt obliged to mail it back because of the kids and how long it’s been. I never experienced a TB whose CO say to mail it back, so I am unsure what to do with this TB. It’s the only second one I’ve found and I started geocaching last year! Advice and thoughts appreciated.

Rest stop geocaches in Virginia

I’ve been geocaching since 2013. I’ve been north south in Virginia on 95 no less than 6 times and east west to the Smokies twice and I have never been able to grab a geocache at a rest stop (adventure labs don’t count). Virginia is one of the only states on the east coast I don’t have a find in and every time I travel through I hope that’ll change but it never does. Every other state has caches at rest stops why is this not the case for Virginia??

TL;DR: hide real geocaches at rest stops in Virginia

Earthmate Pn-40 still good?

I found my Earthmate PN-40 is storage and was thinking of starting geocaching again or maybe selling it off. Is it still a good unit given its age? it still full works and has extra maps on it.
