UPDATE: Exposing the timeline of how they set a trap and lied about it.

I want to update this post with the exact timeline of events, because looking back, it proves how entirely broken and automated their system is.

Here is the actual sequence of facts:

1. The "Oops, Our Bad" Email (A few days ago):
Before any of this mess started, I actually received an email from them apologizing for a previous lock, stating:

>"Upon review, we determined that your account was deactivated in error. We want to apologize for the confusion and inconvenience — you are a highly valued member..."

2. The "Rate Trap" Email (The next day):
Right after calling me a valued member, they sent the email about the Aether "rate adjustment."

3. The Instant Final Ban:
The literal second I clicked the dashboard link to view that new rate, my account was locked, and support hit me with the "Final Decision" deactivation for "violating guidelines"!!!

When I called them out on this contradiction, they sent me the standard copy-paste shield:

>"We are unable to disclose specific details or data points related to this decision to protect the integrity of our review process."

Let’s look at the absolute lack of logic here: They officially admitted their system makes errors and flags innocent people. Then, the moment I interact with a rate change link they sent me, I am permanently banned with zero explanation.

They use the "protecting the integrity of our review process" line as a blanket excuse because they don't actually have a reason. If they had actual human oversight or real "signals" of a violation, their system wouldn't be apologizing one day and permanently banning me the next!!!

They use this corporate script to hide the fact that their moderation is just a glitching bot loop flagging accounts completely at random. They don't have a clue what they are doing.

The Broader Facts About Outlier's Deceptive Practices:

This "integrity of the review process" line is a complete lie. Looking at the community data, here are the actual facts about what this company does to its workers:

  • The Meta Effect: Ever since Meta bought a massive 49% stake in Scale AI (Outlier's parent company), source1 source2 source3 this platform has become an unlivable clown show. Since that multibillion-dollar deal, they have increasingly automated everything. They replaced operational oversight with broken security algorithms and merciless bots that ban people instantly to clear out queues, completely ruining the contributor experience.
  • The "False Flag": Users on this sub have reported getting banned, unbanned, and re-banned up to 7 times in a row. The bots automatically flag basic browser behavior like copy-pasting your own text inside a response box or using a normal grammar checker and support simply copies and pastes the "integrity" script.
  • Mass Over-Recruitment and Free Labor: Outlier mass-recruits tens of thousands of people for massive projects like Aether. They force workers to do hours of unpaid onboarding training and quizzes. Once they harvest the free data from the assessments, the automated system randomly mass-deactivates accounts to clear out the worker queues.
  • Zero Human Oversight: There are no real human beings reading your support tickets. The company uses a multi-billion dollar valuation to build AI tools, but relies on poorly configured security bots to handle human resources.

They hide behind the "proprietary signals" excuse because if they actually showed us the backend, it would expose that their platform is a completely unmanaged mess of broken algorithms. They tell you that you are "highly valued" one day just to keep you quiet, and then dump you the next.

Banned with ZERO explanation after rate adjustment email - Outlier is a joke!!

I am posting this to warn everyone else currently working for or considering joining Outlier. This company is unbelievably holds no regard for its workers.

I received an email from the Outlier team stating *"*We wanted to let you know that some contributors may see a tasking rate adjustment on Aether... To see your current rate, log in to your dashboard."

When I clicked the link to check my rate, the website wouldn't even load. When I reached out to support, I got a generic, automated "Final Decision" email stating my account has been permanently deactivated for "violating Community Guidelines and/or Terms of Use."

I did not violate anything. I was doing my work diligently.

Here is why this is completely outrageous:

  • They hide behind "platform integrity" and refuse to tell me what I actually did wrong.

DO NOT rely on this company for stable income. You can be diligent for months, and they will discard you like garbage with a generic bot response.

Has anyone else been hit with a "permanent deactivation" immediately after a rate adjustment email?

Support has already told me they will not reconsider, so I guess this is how they operate now. Absolutely disgusting behavior!!

Edit: Forgot to mention, the level of disrespect from this company is actually insane. Get this:

Just a few days ago, they sent me an email admitting they banned me "in error." They literally said: "We apologize for the confusion... you are a highly valued member of the Outlier community."

I thought the nightmare was over. I was back in. Then, literally 24-48 hours after they "apologized" and reactivated me, they banned me AGAIN!!!!!.

This proves that Outlier has zero human oversight. Their bots are caught in a loop where they admit they made a mistake, "reactivate" you, and then a different bot flags you again for the exact same thing. They are playing with people’s lives and income like it's a game.
