At the moment I am living in NYC and am currently pursuing a MSIS degree from a CUNY school close to midtown. I have been applying to tons of it help desk and internship roles and nothing. While I am not discouraged just yet am reconsidering whether this Masters in information systems degree is even a good idea. The only reason I enrolled was because my undergrad degree was in psychology. This is my first semester as well so I do not feel too invested in yet which is a good thing I guess. Ultimately I would like to enter the field and end up as a database administrator. Should I drop this degree in favor for certifications or continue ahead, pick up knowledge in hopes of getting a entry level role at the end of it? Anyone able to enter IT without any degrees and experience what was your experience like?

I see that sub teacher nominations are open at the moment. I am looking to get into the DOE as a substitute teacher and don't know where to begin. I filled out the survey but I don't know when the next hiring pool will be. Does one go to schools in person now or wait a few weeks? I am not sure if teachers and admin are back or if they are still on vacay.

Does anyone know when the next pool for substitute teachers will be? also are nominations open at the moment? I’m currently looking to get into the DOE as a substitute teacher and go from there. I do have my bachelors and was a paraprofessional many years ago. Should I go ahead and email principals my resume? thank you in advanced.

For context I currently have a BA in psychology. I have been accepted into Baruch’s masters in information systems program with a specialty in data science. What should I do to land an IT help desk role?

Also I am getting mixed information regarding the comptia a+ certification. Some say it’s a must while others say it’s not. If I’m pursuing a masters in IS, should I still go for the comptia certification?

For context I will be graduating with my undergraduate degree in psychology (Yes I know lol) in about two weeks time. Last month I was accepted to Baruch's Masters in Information Systems program with a specialization in data analytics that I will be attending this Fall in person. At the moment because I am teaching myself Excel by viewing videos online and practicing formulas, cleaning data and the like. I know the market is incredibly competitive at the moment but I am willing to start where I can and go from there.

Some questions that I have are: Would it possible to be a junior data analyst with just a bachelors degree? Other than Excel and SQL what else should I be learning? What else can I be doing at the moment in order to prepare for myself and try to land an entry level job as a data analyst? Thank you in advanced!

Just got my acceptance to Zicklin’s school of business masters in information systems program. While I am excited to start my journey at Baruch, I am also a bit anxious as I haven’t attended college in person since 2011. I did my undergrad degree at an online school and it was a good experience.

If any current students could let me know their overall experience. What is the campus like? Does Baruch provide resources for students like internships and job opportunities? This might be a silly question but does the campus have a gym with free weights for students? And what extracurricula events and activities does the school offer for students?
