I've researched this a little bit before and decided to go down the NHS route, however after chasing up a referral made in October, I was told waiting times are 18-24 months!

I had hearing aids when I was a child but stopped using them due to skin irritation in my ear canal, and seeing as only one ear is seriously affected by hearing loss, I generally got by okay. Now I am 26 and teaching and have been struggling to manage busier environments (I suspect my hearing has deteriorated since I last had it checked).

So do I give up on NHS and splash out on proper fancy private ones, or do I get something mid-low range while I wait for my referral to get proper advice from an audiologist? Any advice greatly appreciated!
