New confidence and socialization skills I didn't know I was missing ❤️
I didn't realize before having HAs how little confidence I had in my ability to hear people. In social situations I would often nod and smile when I couldn't hear. In a way I was being secretly antisocial, pretending to be a part of the conversation and often asking my husband later to repeat things that I missed. It was an isolating feeling but I was pretty used to that.
Well I've had my HAs for 9 months and they are dramatically changing my life! At a very noisy brewery this weekend I heard EVERYTHING people said to me. I proactively used the buttons on my HAs to raise and lower the volume when needed. I had much more in-depth conversations because I could actually participate.
I also started taking in-person Spanish classes, which has been a goal of mine for many years but I felt, what's the point, I won't be able to hear the teacher talking! Ahora aprendiendo español y eschucho mi maestra muy bien haha :)
I was really against HAs for over a decade, and once I got them I hated the way they felt. It took a long time for my brain and ears to adjust. But I am so grateful for them now. I'm starting to understand why social isolation can be an issue for people who are HoH, I didn't even realize I was already falling into that category and avoiding situations due to my ears.
I hope your HAs are helping you and improving your life!
PS: Here's a pic of me feeling cute with my HA chains ❤️
Distortion in Jabra pro 30s
Does anyone have experience resolving issues with distortion in the Jabra pro 30 ha?
I picked up a pair of Jabra pro 30s 2 weeks ago from Costco. They have distortion whenever they process any sound and have had from the moment I received them in the appointment. The tech didn’t seem to think it was a problem and so I hoped I might be able to make some adjustments and work around it but it to no avail.
I have my follow up appointment in 2 days and have tried to call ahead to see if there’s anything that can be organised in advance as it’s a 600km round trip for me but I haven’t managed to make contact
A Google search seems to indicate it’s not an uncommon problem and might be resolved by different receivers or possibly adjusting settings in the software.
I have very little faith in the technician being able to navigate the software and finding any relevant deep settings as both techs who work there expressed their dislike of the Jabra HAs and clearly aren’t overly familiar with the software so any prior knowledge of what to look out for would be of great help.
On a separate issue, I also realise the receivers I have don’t have the microphone + receiver in canal (m&ric) option which I thought were a feature of the brand and which I had trialled elsewhere (with Gn Resounds) and really liked.
Does anyone who has the Jabras have the m&ric? The Jabra website seems to indicate this is an option.
I realise it would be prescription dependent but as a different place recommended them and they worked well for me I am surprised they weren’t an option or discussed.
Beach Vacay in Hearing Aids?
I am going on a vacation in a few weeks. I am also new to my hearing aids. I will be asking my audiologist tomorrow, but I thought I would ask here too. Can I wear my HAs down to the shore? I will not be in the water. I would leave them in the room, but I have 95 decibel hearing loss, so I would not hear the ocean waves.
First time hearing aids for my dad -- Starkey Genesis or Phonak?
My dad is in his early 60s and has never worn hearing aids before. He lives in Korea so I don't know if he has access to all of the big brands available in the US, but he has access to Phonak and Starkey for sure. Does anyone have similar hearing loss and can recommend a brand/model? And can anyone speak to their AI/bluetooth features and battery life? TIA!
MyPhonak app keeps disconnecting
I will set left of -2 and right of 5 but somehow it keeps going back to 0-0
I need help so I love my hearing aids again
New here, new to HA, Can’t figure out why Costcois so beloved.
Hi all, I am getting tested soon, but I already know I have hearing loss.
The guy will be wanting to sell me hearing aids, and I want to buy them, so that’s not the question.
The question is Costco. How can everybody here in the sub say how great Costco is when isn’t it the person doing the fitting and adjustments what you’re really buying? How do you know my little old Costco guy is as good as yours?
Pain in the other ear
I wear hearing aid on my right ear only. There is a nagging pain on the left. I have started using it from 2 weeks ago. Is that related or just coincidence?
Finally realized that I need hearing aids
On 10-5-25 my ears didn't pop after a flight home to EWR from ATL. On descent, my ears hurt (first time ever) and I had no gum or water. I used to always buy gum but never had a problem so I stopped buying it. I'll never not have gum and water with me on flights. By day 2, people had to talk to my ear. The only way to talk on phone was hold it on my right shoulder with mic next to my ear. Could not hear the click of turning on a lamp, my apartment’s doorbell, and the beep from plugging in the instant pot. Waited 8 days to see an ENT that people raved about who did bilateral myringotomy and oral antibiotics. After 2 visits, I switched to an otologist who basically did the same thing.
A little over 7 months later, I have zero issues with the phone, in person, restaurants, the sounds I mentioned above. Hearing test doesn't show much improvement but I feel there is. Otologist says I need HAs to wear every minute. I said I'll get them and use them for, say, movies when I can hear but not understand (clarity) and in a car with people in back seat. Until THIS:
Last week for 3 nights in a row, my bedroom clock radio alarm went off at 12am. I was in my office at the computer. It shares a wall with my bedroom. I have it set between stations and loud, so all you get is horrible loud static but it gets me up out of bed. If I get up before the alarm and I forget to turn off the alarm, when I'm in my office or kitchen and it goes off as scheduled, it's SO LOUD that I RUN to my bedroom to turn it off thinking that every apartment near mine is hearing this.
I'm on the 6th floor. On night 3 of this, I went to the bathroom (next to the bedroom) and heard the alarm LOUD and clear. I learned that my clock radio alarm is designed to go for 1 hour and then shuts itself off. So I've gone in 7 months from hearing the alarm clock loud and clear when I'm in another room to having it so muffled that I thought it was 6 floors down in the parking lot. AND TODAY I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT COSTCO. First opening was JUNE 30!!!!! Obviously I DO NEED HAs, even in the house. Those 3 annoying nights saved me because without that, I don't think I would have accepted the truth. (The alarm was set clearly by me and I don't know why I was so careless to set it for midnight.)

Just got my Phonak Audeo Sphere l90 aids yesterday.
Upgraded from standard UK NHS Phonak Naida. Very curious to hear people’s thoughts on these aids. This is my first time using Ric aids which are far more comfortable I can tell already - its too early for me to really comment on sound yet but my first feeling of that I’m quite impressed with the battery life so far knocking 45-50 hours on one charge. They feel crisper too, some things feel too loud and many ‘s’ sounds are very ‘ssshssssey’ sounding. People I think seem to be able to hear me better over Bluetooth phone calls on busy streets.
Any tips?
I really want to get music sounding as best as possible.
Apprehensive about Deaf Metal
Has anyone made any recent purchases at Deaf Metal? I had questions based on some reviews about the sharpness of the clasps, but I haven't had them respond to my email yet. Makes me worried about buying from them. Any time of purchase response would be appreciated!
Any opinions on the Costco options in Nashville and whether the staff are good or not?
Been seeing it’s rather hit and miss and that a good staff member in the hearing aid center is a game changer. Would love to hear if anyone has had any experience with the ones here?
Jabra Enhance 30 Bluetooth Issues
I purchased a Jabra Enhance 30 from Costco about 5 months ago, and I am nearing the end of my six-month trial. One of the things I like about the Enhance is that I can use them listen to videos, podcasts, etc. on my phone using Bluetooth. I particularly like being able to stream podcasts when I take walks in my neighborhood. However, that is not working well for me. I have read other posts where people say that the sound of the Enhance and the Bluetooth functionality of the Enhance is poor. However, the sound is terrible on mine when I stream podcasts on them. As I am walking, the sound will shift from both HA's to just one side, then after a few seconds to the other side. Sometimes the sound disappears completely for a few seconds. The sound will return, then the volume get very low, then too high. Often times, the sound quality will go from poor/tinny to very unacceptable/tinny.
Is that something that can be fixed or remedied? Or is that just something I will have to live with if I keep these HA's instead of purchasing another brand that costs $3,000 more?
Edit addition: I have an iPhone 14 which has the accessibility functionality to connect my hearing aids.
Loud environment question
I'm a new HA wearer and have age-related hearing loss, mostly highs. My work takes me into loud environments. Generally, I wear over-the-ear protection rated at NRR 31. With HAs, should I take them out or leave them in? My audiologist said it didn't matter. Curious what this group thought. If it helps, OSHA categorizes the noise level as "impulse noise 140–175 dB." There's no conversation going on. Thanks!
Opinions on Star key hearing aids compared to other brands?
For context, I’m 23. My hearing loss is bilateral moderately severe sensorineural hearing loss. Mostly in the high frequencies. My audiologist suggests I get top of the line to protect the hearing I have and thankfully my family has said they will help me secure some with a budget of 5k. My options are between star key or perhaps if there’s a good OTC brand you guys know of.
I keep trying to google and Reddit but it’s a little overwhelming as I don’t really know what all the brands mean.
Oh also horrible timing because I’m going to my first concert next month and I need super good plugs. It’s my favorite band but the audiologist scared me so bad I considered skipping.
I need some advice on Costcos hearing aids.
I went to costco to try on their hearing aids after being tested by an audiologist. I have mild to severe loss in both ears. I tried on the Jabra enhanced 30 as per recomendation from their audiologist. Its ok but I wasnt completely sold. It doesnt feel natural eventhough my hearing did improve. My voice sounded tinty although they said thats normal. Are there any other HA for mild to severe hearing I should try before making my decision.
Phonak Audeo I-90 Sphere and Bluetooth
I just got fitted for the Phonak I90 Sphere hearing aids and they have been amazing in the one week I’ve used them. I can actually hear people next to me in loud situations, which I’ve never been able to do before! it’s amazing. But …I’m having a problem with the Bluetooth. When the phone rings or plays something with audio, it goes through the hearing aids - even when I have the volume turned all the way down. I keep my phone on silent mode and I turn app volumes up only when I want to listen to whatever is playing. but the sound still comes through the hearing aid. I’ve adjusted every setting I can find. I even made an automation to turn off the ringer volume when the hearing aids connect. But the sounds still play as if I have the volume turned all the way up. Does anyone have any advice for me? I’m using an iPhone 11, it’s is updated to the latest operating system and apps automatically update.
Oticon guarantee
Hi everyone,
My grandmother is starting to lose her hearing and we’re considering buying an Oticon hearing aid since we’ve heard good things about it. We want to get the Intent device with the IP68 certification. We have a question, though. Since the hearing aid is significantly expensive we’re of course afraid it might get damaged by everyday use such as being caught in heavy rain or sand when going to the beach. Does anyone here have knowledge about the guarantee that the brand offers? And would it cover damage caused by water or dust? Our understanding is that if they say it is very well protected against water and dust, then it might cover a repair or replace the device in case the hearing aid for example falls into a glass of water or as mentioned, gets wet during a rainstorm, or gets dust while at the beach or a dusty place.
I’d be thankful for any answers.
My HA's
I've seen some colourful hearing aids the last days abd decided to share mine!
truhearing 7 li-ion premium ric
I am able to get these "premium" Signia hearing aids through my insurer for $798 the pair with a desktop charger. I've been wearing them for a week and the seem good and a big improvement over my previous "advanced". I will get the programs (appears to be 6 available slots) and apps when I make my final decision. My moderate/severe hearing has not changed much since last year's test. This seems like an uncharacteristically good option from an insurer. Any feedback/insights would be appreciated.
