Bluetooth — very short distance connection

I have Signia Styletto 7ix hearing aids. The bluetooth connection works well but has a very short range. So I have to hold my phone in front of me or use a chest high pocket. Are there brands with a stronger bluetooth signal?

Father says hearing aids are too big for ear canal and hurt. Looking for insight on custom tips and cost.

My father got hearing aids from Costco and they put on the smallest silicone tips but he refuses to wear them saying that his ear canals are too small and that even the smallest tips hurt.

I know next to nothing about hearing aids. If he were to go to an audiologist would they be able to custom fit tips to his existing hearing aids? Would they potentially still hurt his ears? What is the average cost (for one pair, assuming he has insurance but would also be good to know the out of pocket cost)? If they’re a few hundred, I’d be willing to spend the money to see if they help.

I fear if we can’t figure this out for him, he will deteriorate quickly without his hearing. Thank you in advance.

Best Hearing Aid in Costco for severe hearing loss ? Philips Hearlink 9050 or Rexton reach ?

Hi,

I am trying to buy a hearing aid for my father with severe hearing loss and my final choice at Costco is Either Philips Hearlink 9050 or Rexton reach. Which one do you think has better sound quality and durability / reliability ?

For some uncommon knowledge Philip Hearlink 9050 is almost the same as outside Costco as Oticon intent 1. Rexton Reach is almost same as outside Costco as Signia Pure Charge&Go IX

Thanks

Hearing aids now? Or should I wait?

New to this world. 51(F) - no real exposure to loud environments. Are hearing aids something I should seriously explore? I feel functional, but I'm worried about long term and the tinnitus is annoying at times.

NAL or VAC+, Rexton or Oticon

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my situation and get some advice from the audiologists or experienced users on this board.

I recently discovered I have high-frequency hearing loss with a V-notch pattern. My hearing is perfectly fine (around 20-30 dB) up to 1000 Hz, but after 2000 Hz, it drops all the way down to 60 dB. %88 both ears. I didn't even realize I had hearing loss until my tinnitus started about a month ago.

After my diagnosis, I decided to test a hearing aid for a week (Rexton bicore), and the difference is huge. When I wear the device, my tinnitus gets much quieter, and sometimes I don't even hear it at all. I also realized that when I take them off, my ears feel clogged and everyday sounds seem a bit "gray" and lifeless.

I am definitely going to buy a pair now rather than waiting, but I am completely torn between two different devices and the approaches of two different clinics I visited:

Clinic 1: They are recommending the Rexton Reach (which I know shares tech with Signia IX). For the programming, they strictly use the standard NAL -NAL2 fitting rationale.

Smaller Clinic 2: They are recommending the Oticon Intent 1 or 2. For the setup, they use Oticon's proprietary fitting software/rationale (VAC+) rather than standard NAL.

My main priority is keeping the tinnitus at bay and having a natural sound experience without feeling overwhelmed by digital noise, especially since my low/mid hearing is completely normal.

Are there any audiologists or users here who can weigh in on this? For a high-frequency drop like mine, would you recommend Oticon's proprietary approach (Intent) or the NAL approach with Rexton/Signia? Any insights on how these two specific devices handle background noise and tinnitus would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Question about Starkey Omega ITC ai hearing aids

I got these last week and they are a huge improvement from my (Costco) Rexton Reach. I especially like the sound clarity in Edge mode. Is there any reason to NOT keep them in Edge mode? Does it constantly adjust or would I have to manually switch back to normal and then back to Edge mode when going from one place to another? Ie this morning I went for a walk outside and then to the grocery store with edge mode on but would it have been better to toggle between modes in between?

I hope this makes sense. My audiologist didn’t tell me about it and I didn’t think to ask. Thanks to anyone who reads all that for any advice!!

Also…not meant to bash Costco at all but I don’t think that my local store has HIS with sufficient training for my level of hearing loss.

Hearing aids and headphones

I'm looking for some advice on what headphones you all suggest for hearing aids that go BTE, but for someone who also wears glasses.

I deal with sensitivity to things pressing against my temple, so the cup headphones may not be the best idea. I'd like to still be able to wear my hearing aids with the headphones, too.

Yes, my current hearing aids have Bluetooth, but the sound quality for certain things aren't the greatest, volume wise.

Oticon vs phonak

This is my audiogram, I saw an audiologist on Friday that DOR referred me to. She recommended Oticon intent 1 or 3. I work as a secretary so I handle a lot of calls, so it’s important to stream my desk calls to my hearing aids. I don’t think I would like having to reach for my ear each time I need to answer a call which is why I enjoy a smart mic, she mentioned phonak had the universal compatibility, meaning I wouldn’t need the mic. Would you go with Oticon intents or Phonak. Which of the two is a more reliable hearing aid
I am in California

Headphones over hearing aids or Special Headphones for home use?

Hi guys I struggle to hear my movies etc properly even when I'm using my over ear or on ear headphones. Is it safe to use my hearing aids and those devices? I struggle to understand dialogue, especially soft spoken people so I'm considering using my hearing aids together with them. Are there other solutions that people come up with? thanks

Left Rechargeable Hearing Aid Is Muffled Post-Workout

Hello all,

I talk for a bit, so if you want the part where I actually ask for specific advice, go down to the bolded text. Advice in other matters is also welcome, I just say this so as to not waste your time.

I am new here but I have been deaf all my life thanks to a genetic condition. Thankfully, hearing aids and speech therapy from a very young age secured my ability to function in this world. But anyway, down to brass tacks.

I am currently using some Phonak Naida hearing aids that I received in 2022, so they’re about 4 years old. For over 100 days now, I have been working out very intensively with a buddy over 100 days now. I have always been aware that moisture is a pretty big nemesis for hearing tech. My current problem isn’t new, per se, just more persistent than any I have seen so far. (Aside from a travel horror story I can talk about later if curious.).

Basically, moisture only bothers so much as clogging up the tube itself. This is annoying but quite harmless, and gently blowing in the tube always fixes it up for me. No, the tube is clear and yet the sound is still muffled. I can tell it works because the audio balance buttons for the hearing aid still work and affect the synchronized hearing aids’ “volume”. I can tell it turns on, off, and charges just fine.

Something like this has happened before, and the tech clinic said that the “marshmallow” (think the name is acoustic dampener?) in the ear hook before the actual hearing aid was full of moisture.

Now, I am pretty confident the problem is moisture. In my case, it is ALWAYS moisture. The problem is where the moisture is and how severe it may be. I guess what I actually mean to ask is this: I have a very old dehumidifier meant for hearing aids that has sat in storage for over a decade. This humidifier was safe for my past models, but I am scared of putting my modern hearing aids in there, should it overheat them and make the problem worse? … Now, this problem actually resolved itself as I was getting pictures for this post (volume and hearing in left HA now works fine!), but I would still like to ask for advice because I may want to start taking moisture maintenance more seriously. If you have knowledge on the hearing aid shown or anything about what is likely less-used dehumidifier, insight would be appreciated.

In need of a little guidance

Hello fellow strong soldiers, I am kind of in a frustrating situation. I have interton hearing aids, bluetooth ones.  been using them from 6 months now (i was diagnosed with snhl in like april of 2025, got HA in december 26) , it is my first pair. But honestly i see little to no difference with them on or off, i do hear things better with hearing aids on, its louder sure, but i cannot understand the tinny messed up sounds from all over the places. On top of this, they were set up by the shop keeper of the seller of these hearing aids in my town. I feel like he hasn’t done a good job setting them up, i did go to him two more times bc it was just not working out and he manipulated me into thinking its going to get better when it never did. I have to move cities for university in august and ill be all alone. I would be lying if i said im not anxious. I am lost honestly, i have tried asking my parents to take me to an audiologist but there are no audiologist who work with interton devices in my town. ( only if i knew this when my parents were buying the thing.) ill leave a list of things i struggle with maybe if anyone of you here has gone through the same or similar thing you could guide me a little, i will appreciate it so much.

  • male voices, i dont even bother talking to my dad and  i lipread my brother
  • Cant hear properly/ understand phone calls and voice texts
  • Cannot understand a group talking to each other, or just two people talking to each other i cannot keep up.
  • My tinnitus silences a little in my right ear but it spikes when noise is louder in both of my ears.

I have no idea where the problem lies, i will really genuinely appreciate it if you took some time out to give some advice. Thank u so much!

Semicircular Canal Dehiscence and HA

Sixty days using Starkey HA for moderate sensioneural hearing loss in the left ear but I also have SCD. I’m not sure the hearing aid is helping. Sounds are distorted without the hearing aid and now with the hearing aid that is just amplified. I can’t hear any better and the distortion is very annoying. Has anyone found a hearing aid that works for both SNL and SCD? I’m thinking of switching to Phonak to take the sharpness out of the distortion. My audiologist has been making adjustments and suggested perhaps changing to the Phonak to see if I can get better hearing and less sharpness. Every “ch”, “s”, “sh” sounds are sharp and distorted. I will see my audiologist this week. Thank you.

AirPods Pro2 in Canada as hearing aids

Hi Redditors, I have the above AirPods and have been using them as hearing aids for light hearing loss.

Most recently the fonction stopped but my devices still work for music, YouTube etc.

So I went through the AI (do this do that) and finally it said call Apple.

Apple transferred me to health dept. but now they are saying that it’s not activated in Canada.

At this point I am challenging them.

What are your thoughts/experience, are they allowed to end a service. I know it’s apple.

Thanks.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court Just Overturned A 91-Year-Old Precedent In A 6-3 Ruling That Gives President Trump The Power To Fire The Leaders Of The FTC, SEC, NLRB, CFPB, And Roughly Two Dozen Other Independent Federal Agencies At Will 🏛️💥

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 on June 29, 2026 in Trump v. Slaughter that President Trump had the constitutional authority to fire FTC Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, overturning Humphrey’s Executor v. United States, a 91-year-old precedent from 1935 that had protected members of independent federal agencies from presidential removal without cause for nearly a century. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion joined by all five conservative justices, stating that limits on the president’s ability to remove those who exercise executive power on his behalf unconstitutionally infringe on his Article II authority, and that the president may remove his subordinates at will. Justice Sonia Sotomayor took the rare and pointed step of reading her dissent aloud from the bench, a move justices reserve for decisions they consider historically significant and profoundly wrong.

The ruling applies to roughly two dozen independent federal agencies whose leaders previously served fixed terms and could only be removed for cause. The FTC, NLRB, SEC, CFPB, and Federal Reserve Board of Governors are all now subject to at-will presidential removal under the ruling, giving President Trump and every future president direct control over agencies that regulate Wall Street, consumer protection, antitrust enforcement, labor relations, and the broader financial system. Legal scholars describe the ruling as the culmination of the unitary executive theory, the legal doctrine holding that a president must have total control over all executive branch functions, and say it represents the most significant expansion of presidential power over the regulatory state in modern American history.

In a separate ruling issued the same day, the Court drew a distinction and held that Trump could not fire Federal Reserve Board member Lisa Cook, though the legal reasoning behind that carve-out is still being analyzed by constitutional scholars and its precise limits remain unclear. Trump celebrated the Slaughter ruling publicly, saying it “greatly increases” his presidential power. The immediate practical effect is that no commissioner, board member, or director of an independent federal agency can now consider themselves protected from removal if they make a decision the White House opposes.

from Phonak Virto Titanium B90 ( 9 years old ) to Danalogic Ambio Smart (5 years old )

Hello, so after 9 years wearing the Virto B90 ( titanium shell inside the ear) i decided to replace them with something "newer" cause i don't understand speech unless the person is right in from of me.
Nhs ( in UK) gave me for free these Danalogic Ambio Smart ( which are 5 years old ) and they go behind the ear.
First thing, WOW, they are louder and clearer, more brilliant high frequencies and they have also bluetooth which is great for phone calls.

BUT:

I still struggle a lot understanding speech, expecially in noisy enviornments like office, street, pubs, restaurands even dinner at home with a bunch of friends.

Watch tv is more or less the same, i struggle understanding everything, even watching the News where the voice is clear and without bg noise most of the time.

My audiometry graph shows a moderate loss the goes just a bit into the severe towards the mid/high frequences, the specch frequences, so i guess i'm what is called a "complicated case" to fix with hearing aids cause i'm nos super deaf but i'm deaf enough to not understand speech.
I tried other hearing aids in the past ( i use hearing aids since more or less 15 years ) and to be honest i start to be a bit disillusional about it.
Expecially in noisy conditions ( restaruants for istance ) i don't believe exists an hearing aids that can actually cut out all the surrounding noise and focus on the person that you are trying to understand talking.

It just doesn't exist and manufacturer should stop promoting new mega expensive models with the promise that you'll be able to follow a conversation at the pub like any other normal person. I don't know even one hard of hearing / deaf person who can follow a normal conversation at the pub with hearing aids.
Please find me one and i will change my mind and become more optimistic towards these devices. :-)

Oh, i forgot to mention that as you must have guessed already, i'm not english native ( i'm italian ) and when i'm in Rome, surrounded by italian speakers, the situation is less complicated , i understand more, so part of the issue is definitely the language.
But i live in anglophone countries since 20 years and understanding shouldn't be less of a problem ( my wife for istance she knows english exactly like me but she understand much better than me cause she can ear properly )

Thanks

My Custom Molds

I recently got these custom molds so I could hear better. They do seem to help. I STILL HAVE DIFFICULTY in noisy surroundings as my family can hear better than me.

Anytime I go to restaurants, shopping, church, I always have problems hearing people clearly. The molds do help better in places without background noise.

I was wondering if a directional microphone would be worth buying to filter out the background noise better. My hearing aids do have a setting for noisy environments but I still have struggle hearing people clearly.

Which hearing aid to buy

Hi I want to buy hearing aids for my grandfather he is 84 years old and he has a wired hearing aid which he uses I tried getting him Signia Sirion connect 75 for both ears but he has problems adjusting with it couldn't hear properly while using mobile or a TV when two people talk he can hear that and when they face away that's when he cannot hear but with this machine he could hear that too but could not use phone and TV properly it has to be set again and sometimes hearing while talking to someone is also difficult for him.He can hear sounds but there is no clarity which is why he cannot understand words.

Which hearing aid could be bought for him? Also does it take some time to adjust to a new hearing aid ?

Has anyone with this degree of hearing loss gotten a hearing aid from Costco?

My right ear is close to normal. My left ear has some pretty terrible hearing loss. I think it's around severe or profound. This test wasn't done that recently and so I don't remember everything that was told to me. I do remember the doctor saying that I might want to use a CROS hearing aid. How that works just sounds incredibly irritating. Even if my left ear can't be brought up to anywhere near where my right ear is, I would rather go that route. I want to schedule an appointment with Costco for another test and to discuss options, but before I take the time to go, I'm just wondering, has anyone benefitted from a hearing aid from Costco with this degree of hearing loss? Thanks guys!

Can I buy two right HAs and no left?

I have total loss in my left ear and severe HF loss in the right.

I'm old and prone to losing things.

I'm guessing nobody sells one single HA, and I don't want a left-ear CROS set (all my clients are on my right side).

Can I get two right-ear units so I'll have a spare?
