Just got fitted with hearing aids

Just got fitted with hearing aids

This past Saturday I just got fitted for my first hearing aids. I went with Rexton Reach Plus from Costco. So far the right side(my better ear) sounds good. I can finally listen to the radio with more clarity! There's definitely some higher frequency sounds that I'll need to get use to again. Somethings sound a little harsh.

However I noticed if I take my right hearing aid I'm not noticing much improvement in my left ear. The sound coming through is very rough sounding, like a static radio station. My left side hearing has been this way quite awhile.

The fitter mentioned that I might need a closed dome on the left but he went ahead used the tulip semi open domes for both ears. Would trying a closed dome help?

Below is my most recent test from Costco, this is pretty my how my hearing has been for 2 years.

Also below is the test from a couple years ago. My hearing was pretty much this way for 10 years.

I'm hoping that I don't have auditory deprivation in my left ear.

Getting hearing aids this weekend

I had my Costco test done this past weekend and tried the Philips and Rexton models. Kind of wanted to try the Jabras but didn't have time.

I went in thinking that I wanted the Philips but when trying them they just didn't sound natural, kind of like a mechanical sound. My wife's voice just didn't sound natural at all, at least not in my left ear which is much worse than the right. It might have been just the settings but it seemed like I was picking up a lot of other peoples conversations near me but I couldn't make out what was being said. I was kind of being overloaded on sound but not able to distinguish what was going on.

Then came the Rexton's which seemed to be much more natural sounding. I felt that maybe I still couldn't hear as well as the Philips so I turned up the volume but that also came with kind of a white noise in the background. I did walk outside and the white noise seemed to be less. The tech said that noise is a common complaint with the Rextons.

In the end I chose the Rextons because of the more natural sound and the domes were much more comfortable. What are tips do you all have for a first time user? I'm also curious should I try a closed dome for my left ear and open for my right for my hearing loss below?

Looking to get hearing aids for the fist time

Hi all I'm finally ready to get some hearing aids after I had sudden hearing loss in my left ear about 12 years ago. I had a sudden bout of vertigo and loud ringing in my ear for about an hour. When it cleared up I lost a significant portion of hearing in my left ear. The ENT that I've been seeing ever since chalked up to Meniere's disease.

The first hearing test below is typically what I've dealt with hearing wise. I've just been too stubborn to get hearing aids and the ENT hasn't really pushed either.

However about 1.5 years ago I was working with air tools and the air line to the the compressor ruptured which of course was loud and further damaged my hearing. The second test is now what I have.

The ENT recommends the RIC behind the ear type but is there any chance a in the canal type would work for me? I plan trying Costco since they are the lower cost option and my insurance doesn't cover HA's. I know it sounds silly but I'm a little self conscience about. I'm bald and shave my head so there's no hiding them LOL. Also I'm concerned with the HA's and wearing glasses.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
