Offline Navigation with Suunto-no contour lines or details.
Just wanted to put this out there for anyone considering purchasing a Suunto product for offline navigation. I bought a Race 2 specifically for backcountry camping /canoe trips.
There is one major flaw in certain parts of the world.
No contour lines.
When you plan your trip and routes you can use the online maps and see the contour lines to plan accordingly. But if during your actual trip you need to deviate from the route.... There is no contour lines or details to assist navigation. Just green and blue blobs to show water/land. That's it.
So for my purpose it isn't useful at all. I now use another mapping software on my phone which allows much higher quality offline maps to be downloaded. I was hoping I could use the Suunto app for better offline map tiles. Nope. Same as the watch. Blue and green blobs of colour.
I have reached out on the Suunto forums, they are aware of the issue. And I was told 2.5-3 years before they can fix it.
Something to consider if this is what you are looking at the product for. It's a great watch with good battery life. Just doesn't work for my intended purpose.
