Is the Race 3 coming this year?? Does Race S still get updates?

Which watch?

Hey everyone,

I’m new to sports watches and would love to hear some experiences/advice to make sure I pick the right one.

My main activities include running, Road and gravel biking, Ski touring and backcountry hiking. I really want a watch that can take the guesswork out of my training, ideally using my day-to-day metrics (like sleep and recovery) to build training plans for me to follow day to day, while also changing if I have a race or something else coming up.

I'm looking at a few options atm:
- Suunto 9 Peak Pro: Brand new on sale for $238.
- Suunto Vertical: Brand new on sale for $468.
- Garmin Fenix 6: Used for around $400

Since this is my first-ever watch, is it worth buying a used, beat-up Garmin just to get the automated training features, or should I grab one of these heavily discounted Suuntos and figure out the training side manually (or via third-party apps)? Would love to hear your experiences!

Free: Claude plans your gym training and pushes it to your Suunto watch

Follow-up to my last post about pushing Claude-planned gym sessions to a Suunto watch. That was the plumbing — this is the actual coaching layer on top of it, now its own skill.

Screenshot is the dashboard it can generate (sample data — walking through my own onboarding is still on my to-do list, more on that below).

What's new

  • /gym setup — one interview (goal, equipment, experience, injuries), writes a real Upper/Mid/Legs program, not a generic template
  • Recovery still gates today's intensity like before, but now performance data drives the actual programming: log what you lift with RPE and it autoregulates — hit your reps at RPE ≤7 → progress next time; grinding at RPE 9-10 → hold even though you hit the number
  • Cross-checks every exercise against known injuries before programming it, instead of just at setup
  • Weekly review reads back what actually happened (from the watch + your logs) and rewrites next week — progress, hold, or deload per lift, not just repeating the same plan

The dashboard

Today's session + the recovery call up top, logged sessions with swaps/skips shown inline instead of buried in a full exercise list, then 8-week trends — progression per lift, bodyweight, active injury constraints, all pulled from health-skill so training stays part of your actual health record.

Setup

Both free, open source, MIT:

git clone gym-skill into ~/.claude/skills/gym, run /gym setup, done.

Enjoy!

Auto-adjusting training plan from Suunto data, running in Claude

Hi folks,

I posted here a while back when Suunto support landed in freddy, the personal health MCP. Coming back with something more useful than an integration announcement: I've got a race on Sunday and this is what's kept the plan honest.

Last week I didn't do a single one of the workouts I had planned, which sounds worse than it is. Tuesday was 34 degrees so I swam instead, and Saturday's long run was meant to be an hour and a half but I only had an hour, so I ran it harder.

Both were the right call at the time. The problem is that neither of them made it back into the plan, and if you keep doing that for a month you've properly lost track of what you've actually been training.

So there's a check that runs every morning now, and it goes off what I actually did. It picks up the swim sitting where a run should have been, notices the long run came in short and fast, and works today's session out from there.

https://preview.redd.it/8zl1oz1qn4kh1.png?width=3200&format=png&auto=webp&s=7edff34fc86bf69b60df2425672cdf35cbbf975a

It's a Claude project holding my plan, with a scheduled task each morning. It pulls yesterday's workouts with type and duration, the Training Effect and recovery time Suunto put on them, last night's sleep and HRV, and how my stress sat through the day. Then it looks at today's planned session and commits to one call: it holds, or it changes and the reason goes in the calendar event.

The data all comes through freddy, which connects your sources to whatever AI you already use. Openly my project.

Write-up with the prompts: https://freddy.coach/recipes/adaptive-triathlon-plan

Worth knowing: run it after your watch has synced, because last night's sleep doesn't exist until the watch uploads it, so an early run reports on the night before last. Tell it a single bad night is noise, or it turns cautious after one poor sleep. And it isn't a coach or a clinician.

Suunto, Polar, Garmin, Oura, WHOOP, Withings, Wahoo, Ultrahuman and Intervals.icu are supported, with iPhone and Android apps for Apple Health or Health Connect.

I know health data is sensitive and I have handled it for years with fitIQ. Data is encrypted, I do not sell it, and I am not looking to make a profit off your stats, but if you still don't trust 3rd party solutions, just don't use it :)

Erfahrungswerte gesucht: Welche Sport-/Outdoor-Uhr würdet ihr nehmen?

Hallo zusammen,

Danke euch schon mal! 😊

Suunto Race Charger

Hi, I have a Suunto Race and I truly love it but I am less in love with the charger because of the low magnetic power. I get the reason why, as apparently a higher magnetic strength will cause issues for the watch. However, I’ve heard that you can buy 3D printed charging stations that hold the watch in place, ensuring that charging actually occurs. Does anyone have one of these and where did you get it from?

Garmin user considering a switch ,why did you move to Suunto?

Hey all! I’m in the market for a new sports watch and seriously considering the Suunto Race 2. Currently torn between Garmin Forerunner 970 or jumping ship.

For context: I use a Polar H10 for chest strap HR during workouts and a Garmin Edge 1040 on the bike, so I’m not new to garmin, but new to sports watched , thought I’ve had an Apple Watch for a few years but they just suck at being sports watches and have sold it a few months ago. I’m big into body analysis and metrics and like digging into the numbers, not just glancing at a summary score.

For those who switched from Garmin to Suunto: what pushed you to make the move? Was it software, UX, battery life, something else? How does the Suunto app compare for analyzing training data in depth. does it hold up against Garmin Connect for someone who likes to dive into data.

Also curious about the app experience overall? I find Garmin’s Edge app genuinely frustrating for basic things like transferring or deleting routes, it’s way more clunky than it should be. Is the Suunto app noticeably better/more intuitive for managing routes and data, or similar pain points?

Would love to hear real experiences before I commit. Thanks!

Suunto Race vs. Race S (same €300 price) – HR & GPS accuracy after updates?

Hi all,

Both the Suunto Race and Race S cost €300 at my local store.

Ignoring watch size:

HR Sensor: Does the new HR sensor on the Race S make a big real-world difference, or have firmware updates made the classic Race just as good?

GPS: Is dual-band GPS accuracy 100% identical on both after all updates?

Which one actually performs better for daily tracking and sports? Thanks!

Analyse zonesense

Suunto Run Resting HR Issue

Currently on the latest software, I noticed that my resting HR on the Heart Rate Widget is a few beats higher than normal, restarting the watch fixes this.

(“Error” Resting HR usually 50-52 bpm then after restart returns to my usual 48bpm)

Anybody who also has a Suunto Run can confirm this?

Waypoints

Waypoint on a created course

I just did a trail race with 3 aidstations, I created the aidstations I the app and they also show on the course when viewing it in the app, but to my big frustration they did not show on the route on the watch on the clump guide page.
Anyone else experience this issue?

CTL

Tied for the highest I’ve seen my CTL ever. The recent weekend work has been really boosting this when I couldn’t get it past 75 before. Feeling like I should rest, and also feeling like hitting 100. Both options!

Big fan of Suunto. Coming from the original Core using the altimeter in the Rockies, to the Baro 9, now to my Race 2. They’re my favorite and the app is great!
