Latest Update

Suunto app tells me there is a new version., when I click update, it takes me to the Google plays store, where it does not give me an option to update. Has anyone had a similar issue?

Coros pace 4 vs suunto run

I can get a refurbished pace 4 for $199 or a suunto run for $179. Abyone have these and want to provide some insight?

I run, swim, lift weights and do interval training but not to the extent of me doing marathons or anything like that.

Suunto Vertical 1 – A Few Questions About the Future + Questions About the Vertical 2 and a Comparison with the Coros Nomad / the New Vertix 2026

I’ve been using the Suunto Vertical 1 for two years. I appreciate the watch for:

  • Build quality.
  • The software, despite everything—I’ve noticed it’s gained a lot of new features over the past year.
  • Excellent battery life.
  • Finally, LiveTracking (even though it’s not a native feature).
  • The watch has never let me down—it hasn’t frozen, lost GPS signal, unexpectedly run out of battery, or reset itself.
  • Tracks for routes of 100 km or more load quickly and don’t cause the watch to freeze, as I sometimes experienced with the Fenix 7.
  • MIP display.

On the downside:

  • All things considered, the watch faces still need a good graphic designer with UX skills—the existing ones aren’t updated after a while.
  • The Android/iOS app isn’t as intuitive for sports as Coros.
  • Since this update, it’s clear that the Vertical 1 is slowly dying out. We’re still waiting for an update; the last one was in January.

That’s why I have a few general questions:

  1. Is the AMOLED screen really any good after switching from MIP? How is the response speed when you’re running, there are rocks under your feet, and you just want to glance briefly at the watch face without falling into a ravine in the process?
  2. Is it true that the colors on the AMOLED display are too “vibrant”? Do they fail to capture the essence of a sports watch, making it look more like a toy for teenagers?
  3. Is there any news about the new Vertical 3? Will there be any new models in 2027?
  4. Is MIP really being phased out of Suunto’s lineup?
  5. What’s known about upcoming updates to Suunto’s software for 2026/2027?

I currently have a Coros Nomad. I’m testing it.

It’s a solid watch with software that’s fully integrated with the app. The build quality is definitely inferior, and maybe the design too, but it doesn’t look like a bad watch. It’s definitely fast. The MIP is very good, similar to the Vertical 1. The watch faces are nicer. The app and software are quite intuitive—it’s easy and quick to figure out where everything is. I now understand why Coros is so highly praised.

Suunto Race S Straps

Am I missing something with the straps? When I filter on the site for straps compatible with the Suunto Race S it takes away a lot of the 22mm strap options. But if I take the filter off and click on a different 22mm strap it says it is compatible with all 22mm widths. Are these compatible with the Suunto Race S or not? TIA!

New purchase: Suunto Ocean

Diving in Bonaire our DM had this watch - been eyeing it for a while as dive computer/ smartwatch.

Instantly sold after seeing it in real life, the functions and how many other sports are on it. Hit up a local diveshop on Bonaire and luckily they had it in stock.

Loving the interface/ watchface/ user friendlyness as well.

Next thursday will be using it for two scuba dives. Can’t wait.

OHR didn’t take over 😢. Replaced the battery in my Suunto chest strap and for some reason the battery died 10 minutes into my run. But it just shows a flat line. Why didn’t the OHR kick in?

Possible new 9 Peak Pro user looking for advice

Hi all, I'm looking to change out my current smartwatch (Amazfit Active 2) and the 9 Peak Pro is under consideration (as well as Coros Pace 4). I'm not, by any stretch of the imagination, an athletic sort but I do like to keep tabs on steps, heart rate, and suchlike. I also like to view walk routes but that's not critical. My phone could handle that if needed. I also look for long battery life, audible alarms, and basic notifications from my Android phone (a nice feature would be the watch respecting DND phone settings but that seems to be relatively uncommon). I have small wrists so something less than 44mm is preferred.

Is the 9 Peak Pro a bit overkill for what I want or is it a good choice?

Elevation gain whilst trail running - Peak Pro

Is there any way of seeing the elevation gain whilst in trail running mode? The only way I can think is if you have a route navigation turned on, but even then if you decide to go of course then you can't see your total elevation gain

Race S vs Run

Hello. I currently own a Garmin Forerunner 165 and am looking to get my first Suunto watch. I primarily run, but also do other physical activities like hiking and ultimate frisbee. I am choosing between the race S and the Run and would like people’s opinions…

I heard that the Race S has trouble with tracking heart rate. Is this true? One of the biggest selling points of the Race S (for me) is the build quality. Is it made of a stronger, more premium material? Because I heard that the Run is made of mostly plastic. I also heard that the Run apparently has a brighter, smoother screen when compared to the Race S. And, in the long run, will the Race S receive more attention in terms of software updates?

The price between the two is not a factor in my decision. Any opinions/recommendations are welcome and greatly appreciated

EDIT: Thank you so much to everyone who gave their opinions on both watches! Software wise, I believe I now prefer the Race S over the Run. My final dilemma now would be over the build quality. Upon checking the website, it states that both models are made of the same materials. But reviews online claim the Race S feels “more premium” anyone with experience capable of comparing the two?

Bad sleep estimation on Suunto race s

After the last update, the sleep score has become just terrible. I always get a score of 78 to 82 percent, even when I sleep very poorly. Maybe someone has come across this and knows how to fix it? Sleep time is also wrong, but less often.

Screen wakes up when touching the crown during activities – battery drain issue

Hello,

I am French, so sorry if my English is not very good.

I have a problem with my Suunto Race 2 Titanium.
During an activity, if I slightly touch the crown/scroll wheel without pressing it, the screen wakes up automatically.

Because of this, during trail running the watch screen is almost always on, especially with arm movements or accidental contact, and the battery life becomes much lower than expected.

What is strange is that this does not happen in normal daily use when the screen is off. The problem only appears during activities.

I already tried changing display and battery settings, but the issue is still present.

Is this normal behavior, a software bug, or a hardware issue?

Thank you for your help.

Is turn by turn navigation usable on watches

I was looking to buy a Suunto watch for hiking. One of the features I’d really like is the turn by turn navigation but I have seen a thread on the Suunto Forum when people complain about the feature being unusable due to constant notifications about turns. What is the Reddit community’s experience of using turn by turn navigation. Is it such a problem or does it depend on how the gpx file was created perhaps? Thanks.(link to the Suunto form discussion is https://forum.suunto.com/topic/11193/turn-by-turn-a-major-letdown-in-navigation )

Sleep Tracking - A Good Experience [Race 2]

Hi all

Still new to to the world of Suunto with three weeks in the tank. However, wanted to share my experiences with sleep tracking over said period.

And it has been nothing but solid. Initially, I had a few problems with the time registered when I woke up, but that was sorted by extending DND for half an hour. The problem was that they watch recognised awake time by the start of my first morning alarm, but sometimes if I would snooze or cancel the alarm entirely (because toddlers), it would say I woke up at the first alarm. Perhaps by tweaking my resting HR, and definitely by changing do not disturb, that has not been an issue since.

My falling asleep time is banging on within a minute or two. Right now I have the luxury of falling asleep almost immediately after going to bed, and the last thing I checked before tucking in, is the time on the watch. Next morning, my falling sleep time is within 3 to 4 minutes of that, which totally fits.

HRV seems consistent as well - I’ve got more or less the same readings as on Polar and Garmin (within the past 12 months), so I am guessing it’s not totally off. Or at least consistently off. It also tracks my overall feeling well, too. So no complaints either.

I’ve never gotten more than ~80% score and my occasional visit to the toilet during night is also not registered. but frankly, I don’t care sleep and awake times are rock solid

Just read so many people saying it doesn’t work and so on, so wanted to share my experiences as a new Suunto user.

What are your thoughts and experiences?
