Possible Main Line Issue
The other day I ran a load of laundry and when the washing machine was draining, it backed up into the laundry room, quite a bit. I have a snake and tried to clear any potential clog but it didn't help at all, same deal next time I did laundry.
So I call a local plumbing company that has a reputedly good reputation, they come out with two trucks and two techs. They said they ran a camera through the pipes and the main line needed to be jetted, it was clogged with grease. I did not see the camera, which I should have asked for. Their charge for this is $2,000. Needing to do laundry and shower, so I agree. The next day they come out and jet the main line and say all is good, they show me a clean pipe on the camera and leave.
Yesterday I run a load of laundry and out of the closest shower to it, black water comes pouring out of the wall where the drain stopper lever/switch is. So they come back today and I say oh, after we jetted the main line that point (the shower) is now the low point in the system and that's causes it to back up there and that they will come back and try to remove some of the cast iron in the pipe with the power-jetter to make it flow properly into the septic tank, if not, they claim the main line is failing and it will be $30,000 to replace.
The house was built in 1999 and apparently has a cast iron main line, there are no roots growing into it or anything like that. I fail to see how it's failing and I think they simply are not capable of properly doing their jobs and are probably told by their company to upsell whenever possible.
I know it's hard to judge a situation like this from just one post, but this just doesn't add up in my head. Any opinions?
