Bonding gone wrong! Rabbit got into the other enclosure unsupervised
Hi all!
A day ago we had a big accident where one our desexed female bun got into the new buns enclosure unsupervised. A fight broke out where the bun who entered lost and backed away into a corner hurt.
The enclosure has a very large fence that’s bolted into the room. It’s been like this for 2 months together where they can’t meet and get used to each other and the other bun can continue to be free roam. The new bun is a desexed male of the same age.
The bun somehow jumped over a 1.2m fence. Potentially on a box that was in the space.
Our poor bun just came out of surgery today with a large face injury. She is recovering well. She won’t have any long term problems but has been traumatic and expensive mistake from us.
Our questions for everyone is that we have taken bonding slow, but any contact we have had (supervised) has been aggressive from the new bun for over 2 months. When is it enough where we just give up on bonding? The new bunny is rescued where we don’t know a lot about his past. Will the hurt bunny remember this injury and give up on bonding too?
