Is it just me? --> New Aircanada.com CAPTCHA

Is it just me? --> New Aircanada.com CAPTCHA

I'm curious if this is just a "me" thing:

For context, I understand bots, the challenge of bot mitigiation and why AC needs to protect their site and data from scraping. I also understand the velocity and ferosity of that scraping and of bots in general has 10x'd or more. I'm also not otherwise in need of accessibility aids other than a minor glasses precscription;

Recently, over the last 3 weeks, I've noticed that the CAPTCHA puzzles on aircanada.com have gotten very cumbersome. We're talking small, hard to see puzzle peices that have 5 options with different gradients and if you get 1 out of 10 wrong, you have to start again. I've also noticed that even if you get 10 in a row correct, sometimes it will make you go through the entire sequence again before logging in. This means that it can take 10 to 15 minutes just to login.

This happens:

  • Whenever I am away from my home IP (ironic for an airline where at least half my check-ins will be from not my home IP)
  • Whether I am on my VPN or ZTNA or not
  • From time to time on my home IP as well.
  • Using Chrome, Firefox and in private browser windows.
  • It does not happen at all when I login to the app, only when I login on the browser but when the app needs to use the browser, such as for seat selection, I've noticed an increased failure rate.

I've filed a note with the AC team using their site feedback form.

I wish they would switch to something like Cloudflare's automated CAPTHCA gate and bot detection but I get that can be a challenge. Is it just me? Are you having trouble? If there are enough replies, I will forward the thread to a few people we know at AC in IT.

EDIT: I mention that I don't need accessibility aides up top to highlight that this isn't an accessibility issue for me but I have to imagine that if it's frustrating to me, it's wreaking havoc on the experience for someone who does require an accessible internet in one form or another.
