Should I be wary?
29M Here. My whole life I've had trouble breathing out of my left nostril. I told every new doctor about this, and they just sort of hand waved it away by saying the only fix was surgery if I was concerned, but never told if/why I should be concerned.
My new PCP had me meet with a sleep specialist last week. We did a CBCT scan showing the blockage, and he straight up told me, yes, this is probably depriving you of REM sleep, and thus the cause of everything wrong with you. Bad posture, twitchiness, tired all the time, white crap on my tongue, adhd diagnosis in youth. From what I can tell by reading other people's stories, I don't think I have it nearly as bad as most people, but it's definitely there. I've been dealing with some vitamin deficiencies this year which has likely made the problem worse. The sleep specialist wants to put me on a treatment plan, but a couple things have me concerned.
Firstly, never once during our conversation did he give me a formal diagnosis, or even use the term UARS. None of the literature he gave me used the term either.
Second, he seemed a bit eager to put me on this expensive plan, which will involve getting a dental scan for some kind of plastic thing that will go in my mouth when I sleep (couldn't find the actual word for this, sorry), wearing a SONU headband, and meeting with a dietician. I was in a pretty bad way during the meeting so I pretty much agreed right away, but haven't signed anything at this time. The guy seemed knowledgeable and the clinic he's a part of has been trustworthy so far.
Since the meeting I've worn some breath right strips to bed (a product the doctor did not inform me about) and it has freed up my nasal passage, but I don't feel much different otherwise. If anything, instead of waking up briefly in the middle of the night, I think I'm just waking up an hour earlier than I normally would.
Does this line up with anyone else's experience?
