whats the biggest mistake you made with cold email when starting out?

curious to hear other peoples stories cuz i feel like i learned everything the hard way lol.

for me it was definitely sending way too many emails before i actually had my messaging figured out. like i burned through a whole domain in my first month because i was blasting 500 emails a day with a terrible pitch and no warmup. landed straight in spam and didnt even realize for weeks. classic rookie move.

second biggest one was probably not following up at all. i would send one email and if they didnt reply id just assume they wernt interested and move on. found out later that most replies come after the 2nd or 3rd touch so i was basically throwing away leads for no reason.

oh and i also used to write these super long emails explaining my whole life story and what my company does and all the features blah blah. nobody read them. once i cut them down to like 3-4 sentences my replies went up a lot.

anyway just wondering what everyone elses biggest fails were. always feel like you learn more from the screwups than the wins.

would be cool to hear what mistakes other people ran into so the newer folks reading this can maybe avoid them 👀
