Connect and Waterline Extension Idea

The western end of these extensions would branch off of the current Waterline (WL) tracks south of Morganstown Docks and roughly follow the path traced in the second image. After the second unnamed station, a Waterline-only branch would continue south and serve 3-4 new stations, while a longer branch partially shared by Connect (CN) and WL would turn east, cross the River Ben, and also have 4 stations (maybe more or fewer depending on the actual in-game distance) before linking up with an upgraded Leighton West. Waterline trains would terminate at Hargate Central while Connect trains continue towards the Leighton Zone.

2 additional tracks for WL might have to be added to the west of the current ones at Morganstown Docks if running 4 different operators (CN, MT, EXP, WL) through that station puts too much strain on the current 2-track layout.

I was too lazy to come up with names for the 6 unnamed stations, so feel free to share some name suggestions for them here.

How I would do a 34th St Crosstown - Franklin Av line

So this is based on an idea that a friend and I came up with together. As shown in Image 1, the line (which I am designating as a green K train) would run east from 34 St–Hudson Yards on the 7 line, with stops at:

  • Penn Station (for connections to the A/C/E/1/2/3 trains)
  • Herald Square (for connections to the B/D/F/M/N/Q/R/W trains)
  • Lexington Av (for a connection to the 6 train)
  • 2nd Av (for connections to future 2nd Av Subway services)

The line would then run into Brooklyn through a new East River tunnel and connect with the IND Crosstown Line (G train) north of the present-day Greenpoint Av station. From there, it would interline with the G until Bedford–Nostrand Avs, where it would turn south under Franklin Av and absorb the current Franklin Av Shuttle (Image 2). With this, a new underground station would be built at Fulton St, and the current Franklin Av line north of Botanic Garden (including Park Place) would be rebuilt in an open trench.

South of Prospect Park, trains would run local along a deinterlined Brighton Line to Ocean Pkwy (Image 3). With this, new relay tracks (Images 4 and 5) would be built using existing trackways west of the station and running parallel to West 8 St–NY Aquarium station to allow trains to turn around, enabling Brighton Line express trains to continue to Coney Island instead of local trains. All credit goes to nerdy.nel for that idea, and for Images 4 and 5.

Service on the full Brighton Line (Image 6) would be as follows:

  • B train - Brighton Express to/from Ocean Pkwy
  • D train - Brighton Express to/from Coney Island
  • K train - Brighton Local to/from Ocean Pkwy

Assuming that Dekalb Junction isn't deinterlined, then service would be as follows:

  • B train - Brighton Local to/from Ocean Pkwy
  • K train - Brighton Local to/from Ocean Pkwy
  • Q train - Brighton Express to/from Coney Island

To sum things up, a north-south route like this one would:

  • Provide a more direct link between northern and southern Brooklyn
  • Act as a bypass around Downtown Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan

Should the Class 166 get added to Connect?

I personally think so (while also keeping the train on Waterline) specifically because the Class 166 also operates on regional services in real life, such as the route between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour (which was previously operated by the Class 158, a train we do have on Connect).

What are your thoughts on this?

Seeking advice before getting my first ride-on inflatable

Hey everyone, I’m new to this subreddit. I’ve been into ride-on inflatables for years, mostly from a design and collecting perspective, and I’m finally thinking about purchasing my first one. But before doing that, I wanted to ask a few questions here.

For some background, I first became interested in ride-on inflatables around age 10 or 11 after discovering YouTube videos featuring Horseplay Inflatables horses. Over the years, I grew up watching channels like Heath Dragon and following niche companies like Horseplay Toys, Inflatable World, and others in the space, but I’ve never actually purchased or owned any ride-on inflatables myself due to cost, self-consciousness, and concerns over privacy and limited space. Now, at age 19, my main hesitation is figuring out how to approach a hobby that my parents may not immediately understand, since I still live with them.

Earlier this year, I decided that the “Inflatable Horse by Arin” (aka the German Heavy Warmblood) from Horseplay Toys might be the one I wanted to start with. Since I still live with my parents and would be keeping it at home, I felt I should explain to them why I wanted it. When I first tried explaining my interest to my father, I overexplained it because I felt embarrassed, which probably made it sound stranger than it really is. His main concern was the size of the inflatable horse, and even after I offered to show him photos of it later, he still felt that horse riding lessons would make more sense and thought I'd look strange carrying something that large.

That experience made me realize I probably could have explained my interest better. Looking back, I can understand why it seemed unusual from my father's perspective. At the same time, while researching Horseplay Toys, I also came across very mixed opinions about their products and customer service. So before making a purchase, I wanted to ask a few questions regarding Horseplay Toys and navigating this hobby as a newcomer:

  1. If you were introducing this hobby to someone who had never heard of it, how would you explain it? What would you emphasize, and what would you leave out?
  2. For those of you who bought your first ride-on inflatable while still living with family, how did you explain the hobby to them?
  3. For those of you who have purchased from Horseplay Toys recently, how has the quality and customer experience been? Would you recommend them for a first inflatable purchase, or are there better starting points?
