After making an autonomous shoebox, AŽD moves to abusing Tatra KT8s
After making an autonomous (in this case driverless) train prototype from an old 810 class railbus, AŽDs newest creation is a battery operated KT8D5.R2 intended to test out a train-tram concept.
The choice of the KT8 was made because it has doors on both sides, and the vehicle can be seen around Kopidlno. It should also provide a significant cost advantage - the price of such a unit is around 12 million CZK (500K €) compared to a new train that would cost about 20 times as much.
