[OC] Halifax City Rail Link (Tennessine Metro Designer)

[OC] Halifax City Rail Link (Tennessine Metro Designer)

Halifax City Rail Link (CRL)

Continuing my fantasy transit map series for Canadian cities, this time for the Halifax Metropolitan Area (population ~517,000).

As the name suggests, the downtown portion (between Halifax Central Station and Convoy Place Station) is inspired by Auckland's City Rail Link project and is the only tunnelled portion of the entire network. The route alignment and station placement are also inspired by Wellington's commuter rail system. The majority of the network uses existing tracks or trails, with signal upgrades, electrification, double-tracking, and grade-separation works expected at many locations.

The network will greatly improve connectivity in the largest metropolitan area in Atlantic Canada, create new jobs during construction and operation, and make educational and employment opportunities in Halifax more accessible to residents in the surrounding area.

Fantasy Metro System for Regina, Saskatchewan [OC]

Regina, Saskatchewan (Software: Metro Designer)

Just created a fantasy map for Regina, the capital city of Saskatchewan, Canada. The city has a population of approximately 263,500, similar to that of Rennes and Lille, France.

A large portion of the proposed network uses existing rail corridors at the ground level to control construction costs. Localized tunnelling work may be required to create grade separations at select locations. The network can use an automated tram-train system on a standard gauge compatible with the existing tracks.

Although passenger trains no longer serve the city, much of Regina Union Station's infrastructure has been preserved, and the station building now houses a casino and several restaurants. A light metro system also provides an opportunity to revive Regina Union Station not only as a transit hub but also as a TOD experiment with the potential to completely transform and renew Regina's heritage downtown.

Secondary Access / Pedestrian Bridge on the East Side of Exhibition Station?

Hi everyone! I wonder if there are talks to add a secondary access on the east end of the platforms at the Exhibition Station? The currently posted station map on the project website shows nothing, but to me it seems like an additional access near Pirandello Street will boost the accessibility of the station greatly.

The eastern part of Liberty Village is very dense, and accessing the station from Jefferson and Atlantic alone will, unfortunately, require a lot of zigzagging for residents in the area. A secondary access at the east end can also benefit residents living near King and Shaw, who currently use the King-Liberty Pedestrian Bridge to travel south. It makes more sense if we consider that the boarding area of the streetcar is also located on the east end of the streetcar loop.

It doesn't even need to be a fully sheltered station building like the main one. Something like the "Puente De Luz" pedestrian bridge would be good enough to provide critical connectivity and would benefit a lot of people.
