I’m 62 and had been five years behind on teeth cleaning. I finally got an appointment with a dentist who has given me three crowns, the last one a few days ago, was over the far back right upper molar. The temp fell off on the weekend, and it ended up hurting, badly. He put the crown on Tuesday, and it was excruciating w/out numbing. It felt better after an hour but with every meal or tooth brushing the pain returned. It’s Friday morning at 2:30 am in pain cuz I was sleeping on it. I haven’t had tooth pain since my first cavity at 9 years old. I read that cracked back molars teeth have to be removed. At the rate this is getting worse, it feels like an emergency.. the weekend could be horrible. Also I keep wondering why the dentist didn’t ask me about whether I had eaten with the cracked tooth exposed after the temp crown fell off on the weekend. He said if the crown didn’t work I would need a root canal because of the crack. I think communication was poor, the crowning was a fail, I left the office in so much pain I was almost in tears. As I feel now. My confidence in this dentist is low. What should I expect from a good dentist in this situation? Should the tooth be pulled? I will call when the office opens tomorrow.
