My advice to people on this job, is don’t feel like you need to help one of your coworkers in a fight if you don’t like them.
I have seen first hand what happens to cops on this job who stand their and watch while their partner is fighting someone else. Nothing serious happens.
One guy I know got transferred to another command and has been doing VIPERS for over a year now. So their idea of punishing him was giving him less work and taking him off the street.
Another guy I know got to stay in the same command, but his permanent assignment is THV. Day tours try to “punish“ him by relieving him 2 hours late every day. In other words, their idea of punishing him is giving him less work + 10 hours of OT every week.
I have met many scumbags/assholes on this job whom I would happily watch get their asses whooped, and I would grab some popcorn to enjoy the show while I’m at it.
You will come across supervisors who threaten to make your life hell if you don’t help your partner in a fight. Don‘t let them scare you. If a supervisor ever tries to target you for retaliation, document each incident and report it to IAB.
Also, don’t be scared of getting CDs. Even if your time balance becomes negative, you can still go on vacation. You’ll just go further into the negatives.
