Smoke smell?

I live near the Tesco Express on London Road. Smells quite strong of smoke. I know Pershore had a major incident with fire today but are there any other unfortunate issues?

Be safe people! 🙏

They finally caught up...😂

So I've been using Next DNS for the past year or so just so I can view the WN site without the excruciatingly annoying adverts and popups.

It's worked flawlessly for this time, however it appears the company behind the WN has finally caught up as my private DNS no longer works.

Ah well, so much for that lol

Any other suggestions apart from subbing (I refuse, there are far too many subscription based things these days) people might suggest? 😊

No issues with postal deliveries? Hmmmm

Yeaaaah no Royal Mail are clesrly lieing through their teeth here.

We go days without post here only to then get a thick wad with some letters dated with posted dates nearly 2 weeks+ before the delivery.

Parcels that come by RM for us have often come well after the delivery window too, one of which was a "24 tracked" one that took over 7 days to get to me.

This service needs to come back to being public owned, being made private has massively hurt the service.

monthly photo comp thing for the subreddit?

I was wondering if it would be considered that we could do either a monthly photo competition for fun.

Might be good to poll it, I wouldn't bother with prizes because that's when you invite cheaters.

Could also be any form of media I guess too. Open to suggestions!

What does everyone else think? 😊

What's going on with the roof level of St Martins Gate?

The roof level is closed off and there sounds like serious machinery being used up there. What's going on? Are they actually putting the solar panels in? Or is it some kind of resurfacing?

Anyone else enjoy throwing their windows open this morning after a week of hell fire? 😅

Opening up the windows earlier felt like when you open the fridge and that cool air rushes against your face.

Very glad that Heatwave is calming down/finished and we can get back to regularly scheduled summer warmth with breeze. 😻

London Road closed over summer holidays?!

I don't know if it's the heat, but I swear I drove past a sign this afternoon on London Road reading "This road will be closed 6/7/2026 for 8 weeks"

For real, full road closure? Or is it gunna be partial. If it's a full closure then Holy crap it's gunna be rough. Cadent though so I'm not holding any hope...

Edit: Found some info!

Cadent just announced the details for this project. They are launching a major gas main upgrade on London Road to replace over 770 meters of aging pipeline with durable new plastic pipes.

Key Dates & Traffic Impact

Timeline: The project officially begins on Monday, July 6, 2026, and is scheduled to run until the end of August 2026.

London Road: The main road itself will remain open, but temporary traffic lights will be in operation for the entire duration of the project. You'll definitely want to allow extra time for travel along this stretch.

Side Road Closures: Starting a week later on July 13, Foxwell Street will be completely closed for roughly two weeks to let engineers work safely. Additional work will also impact Yew Tree Close.

Data gleaned from Cadent Gas via AI search. So please feel free to double check.

School closures during heatwave (WN article)

I don't think I've ever seen a period of time where schools ha e decided to close due to extreme heat. Potentially a good idea but might put some parents in a bit of a tough spot if they can't make arrangements 🤔.

Either way I screenshotted the list (taken at 0530,so might be more when you are reading this) as the WN stupidly registration lock their articles, this is important public info for goodness sake, stop doing this! 🤣.

If you want to read yourself, I guess register or do what I do and use a free private dns (Next DNS) to skate past it all.

I haven't seen anything on the independent schools (I work at one of them) but if the one I'm at decides to I'll update this.

Stay safe all!

A plea to pet owners

It's going to be an insanely hot week this week and as a professional who works in the pet industry (cat sitting primarily) I'd like to take a smidge of your time to remind you of a few things (Tldr it's bloody hot so be smart about it).

Dog owners: Goes without saying but the amount of owners I see walking their dogs in heatwaves is utterly mad, touch the concrete/tarmac and if it's even slightly warm for you it's highly likely it's far too hot for the doggies. Their paw pads are sensitive and will burn easily, not to mention overheating when running about during the heat.

If possible keep them to grassy areas (or gardens if you're lucky enough to have one) and shaded spots. Ultimately walk them well before and after the sun begins beating upon us, even if it means you getting up/staying up later, you chose the dog(s) so be sensible ❤️. Dogs are usually great with drinking so keep it available!

Cat owners: I'm more experienced in this field and cats are a little trickier to keep cool as they don't regulate like a dog can.

* Water, water, water! Can't stress it enough really! Dishes, fountains, pint glasses (yes it's a thing lol) and more. Put out at least 1 water source per floor and one outside if you really must have the cats go out.

* Curtains/blinds closed, upper windows popped open to help keep the heat at bay, upvc windows have a handy knack or being able to be "locked" in a slightly open position, those tiny vents won't do anything, that just helps keep damp away!

* If you got fans, use em! Have fans where possible, pointed at an open window if you can as it helps purge heat out during the day, bladeless tower fans are fantastic for rooms and cats as it doesn't emit harsh air, my two love ours! Also I highly recommend "air circulators" like the ones Honeywell make (not sponsored lol) as they really do make a difference when pointed at the ceiling (drags cold air upwards, creating a cooling effect).

* Cooling mats work great too (and for dogs!) if your cat will use them, B&M/Home Bargains/The range stock cheap ones that work well.

* If you can keep them in, please do! Like dogs, cats have sensitive paws and probably even more so to be honest. Keep them in especially during the later part of the week, if you don't usually, buy a litter tray / puppy pads and keep the house as cool as you can. Or let the cat put at night when it's cooler.

Ultimately be sensible with your pets this week, and if you have any other handy tips/hacks please do add them here in replies! Together we can keep our pets safe during the heat ❤️.

Oh and hydrate yourself too, if you think you haven't drank enough water you probably haven't!

Thank you for taking time to read this, it's a bit wordy for reddit I know 😂😻

Photo of my cat Tifa as payment for reading ❤️😻

Sidbury junction down to 1 Lane per exit due to Roadworks.

Was passing through on my rounds this morning to notice the 3 way junction at Sidbury just outside the commandery is being worked on by Doocey. Each side has 1 Lane coned out.

I hope it's just today, but warning people as it'll no doubt be busy later.

Rip Traffic lights by Waitrose (again) 😂

Yay traffic talk!

What happened to the one set of lights on the Waitrose junction top of London Road? Did someone decide to fight it with their car? 🙈

Looking forward to when it gets a replacement and we get yet another set of temporary lights 🤣😭

Hello all!

Hi everyone I hope you are all well on this Sunny Wednesday!

I thought seeing as this group is new and I'm new as a Reddit mod, that I'd introduce myself a little and let you know what I'm about 😊.

I'm Galeprime (online friends call me Prime usually) and I'm a 39 year old Male living in Worcester (nearby to the sauce factory), I run my own business as well as working in a local school and I love it here. Compared to other cities Worcester is incredibly more relaxed and welcoming 😍.

My moderation experience mostly comes from running Discord communities (approx. 10 year exp.) and I'm also a Lead Twitch moderator of 5 years so helping to run things like these is pretty much standard for me!

I video game on Xbox when I have time for it and have two cats called Tifa & Yennefer and am married to an amazing wife 🤩

I'll keep it short for now, but if you'd like to chat or know anymore then ask away! I'm very open as are my DMs 😊

Temp lights out of sync/bust by Waitrose London Road

The temporary lights on the junction by Waitrose London Road are not cycling and on constant red, all flows of traffic are having to essentially "risk" going for it.

Thought I'd post to warn people pre rush hour 👍
