Stellaris Ground Invasion Mod Planning
Hey folks,
I wanted to gauge interest in a mod concept I've been considering for Stellaris.
The basic idea is a system similar to Crusader Wars for CK3, but instead of Total War, ground invasions would be fought in RimWorld.
When a planetary invasion begins, Stellaris would export data such as species, army types, technologies, planetary features, and defenses. RimWorld would then generate a battlefield based on that information, allowing you to personally command the invasion and fight the battle. Once the battle is over, the results would be exported back into Stellaris and applied to the campaign.
I think RimWorld is uniquely suited for this because it already supports many of the things Stellaris ground warfare is missing such as tactics, bombardment, artillery, cybernetics, etc
Rather than reducing planetary invasions to a simple strength comparison where its your number stats vs their number stats, major invasions could become memorable battles with real tactical decisions and consequences.
Obviously this would be a very large project, and there are plenty of technical challenges to solve, particularly around scaling, planet generation, and translating Stellaris armies into RimWorld combat scenarios.
I haven’t published mods publicly, but I’ve worked with Paradox scripting/modding extensively for private projects, so the technical side of this isn’t new territory for me.
Before I seriously commit to building a proof of concept, I'd like to know what the community thinks.
Would this be something you'd actually use? What features would you want to see? Are there any major obstacles or concerns that immediately come to mind?
Feel free to give me your thoughts in the comments!
UPDATE #1:
Initial feedback has been awesome, thanks guys. I do want to clarify - that this system is intended to be designed as an optional layer that you can use whenever you want to. This system will NOT force you to fight every single battle within RimWorld, only when YOU want to.
