Car shop in the same building violates OSHA and affects our safety at work. Anything I can do that won't put me out of a job?
A car repair shop next to where I work regularly paints without properly venting. The fumes will leak into our portion of the building and we've had to close early on several occasions because of it. We've talked to them several times, each exchange getting more heated, and have implemented policies in our business to make sure we're good neighbors.
I've heard that because we operate in the same building any OSHA investigations are going to cover the whole building. Ours is properly ventilated for what we do, but not for paint fumes. If they do investigate the whole building and determine that we have to shut down, then I'm out of a job until I find a new one.
I like my job and I highly doubt it would survive if we had to shut down and spend money upgrading and installing vents. Myself and a lot of my coworkers would also struggle if we were suddenly out of a job.
Is this true about OSHA regarding unrelated businesses operating in the same building? Would my workplace also be hit if there is an investigation?
