Can 20 Argentinian Gandalfs be wrong? Maia-nor drama in /r/lotrmemes when Argentinian Gandalfs converge on Peter Thiel's house to protest Palantir

Disturber of the peace? Some users think so when a video is posted of a group of protestors outside Peter Thiels' house in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Full post (let's see how long this lasts due to the No IRL-politics rule. Claiming the throne of Gondor is allowed): https://www.reddit.com/r/lotrmemes/comments/1vrbv2e/protesters_dressed_as_gandalf_protest_against/

But the journey doesn't end here! I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the Flame of Anor, and I'm here to share some of the most dramatic reactions to this video. Surprisingly most of the comments were civil and entertaining, but a few users were less than thrilled. Here's a few gems:

*****

Fool of a Took? Wizards take sides as they debate the efficacy of the protest:

>real_picklejuice: Just from this... I'd say it's a stretch to call it a protest

  • bikes_rock_books: Fuck Palantir and Thiel, but this is just a performance, they seem more interested in being seen than actually protest. It is all too "chummy" for my taste. Cringe.
  • toms1313: Being seen is important for protests. If they were 20 people without costumes you wouldn't know about it
  • pillmayken: Why? It sure looks like a protest to me.
  • real_picklejuice: It's slacktivism

>Foreign_Onion4792: What are they protesting?

  • Elihzap: Nothing in particular. They just wanted to insult him.
  • The_Real_Peter_Thiel: Let's all calm down a bit, ok?

>SpinShine-LEDSlipMat: No one takes you seriously when you play dress up. Take this seriously if you want to be taken seriously

  • toms1313: You're so right! Show us your serious protest please
  • aguafranca: Really? Can't you think a single presidential candidate which was taken as a clown and now it's ruling a country? I can think of severals. Also, no costumes means no reach, these guys just got massive reach.

Fireworks erupt when two users argue how far to go:

>PeppyMG: The time for goofy protests has long passed, if this is all we can muster we are fucked

  • toms1313: Do something then?
  • PeppyMG: Ah yes, me on my own doing some adventurism, that totally works and won’t just end with me dead or in jail. What a dumbass remark.
  • toms1313: So... You're just angry and passive?
  • PeppyMG: So your suggestion is I do some lone wolf terrorism? And I am actually in a party and organized, delivering food to the poor and agitating during marches and rallies. As opposed to shaking my ass in a gandalf suit. What do you do? You ever been arrested before? If you were you wouldn’t be suggesting I get my brains blown out.
  • toms1313: I didn't suggested anything more than "you're a snob" thanks for confirming it

Who would willingly name a software company after an evil magical stone? Users leave reason for madness with some unhinged takes

>Stakhanovite94: Who would willingly name a software company after the evil magic stone the evil sorcerers use to evil spy on each other?

  • BeastVader: Zionists
  • Wooden-Box-3888: A german guy would.
  • NemoNoNomeN: You'd be surprised by how openly evil some of the "ruling class" are these days. Just goes to show it's time for us to bring back madame guillotine.
  • RummoLiguori: It's not evil though, it's an elven face time device
  • ShitassAintOverYet: If you know Peter Thiel it makes perfect sense. The actual question is "Who the fuck trusts a software company named after the evil magic stone the evil sorcerers use to evil spy on each other?"
  • The_Real_Peter_Thiel: Do I know you?
