Proofreader job with a Federal agency (apply by 8/25)

Do you have 5+ years proofreading or copy editing experience, and want to help keep America informed? The Government Publishing Office is hiring proofreaders to help make government documents available to the people.

What to expect:

  • Full time positions starting at ~$47/hour, with opportunity for overtime and holiday premium pay.
  • Excellent federal benefits, including health insurance, annual/sick leave, retirement benefits, transit benefits, and more.
  • Position is part of a Union bargaining unit.

  • You may be assigned to day shift or night shift, with periodic chances to change shifts.
  • In person work only, no remote or telework.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Proofreading, keying and correcting a variety of documents, both on paper and digitally.

While this may not technically be a job in journalism, we consider it journalism-adjacent since we play a role in ensuring public access to information. And many of us came from journalism, as it's one of the best places to learn editing skills.
