30M, finally pulling the trigger after a layoff with $650k NW

Hi all,

Last week I was told that I was being let go. My aim was to reach $800k in NW before pulling the trigger, but I will now be pulling the trigger much earlier.

I have $530k in various accounts invested into to SP500 index funds. I also have around $120k equity in a condo that cash flows $900/month after all the expenses and expected vacancy.

I'm 30M, single, and living with my parents. No plans to change this going forward as my parents are getting old and I want to take care of them. I was making about $80k/year before I was laid off.

As a benefit of living with my parents, I have no housing or food expenses. My current plan is to rely on the $900/month income from my condo for my discretionary spending, and let the rest of my portfolio compound in the coming years. I'll also be doing some strategic withdrawals to increase my MAGI, in order to be eligible for ACA and avoid the work requirements.

Just wanted to share my joy at finally seeing the end of the tunnel. This sub was very motivating throughout my journey.

How do you get a Schengen visa as a early retiree with no income?

Due to recent market bull run, I've decided to quit my job and retire early. I have about $1.5 million in my brokerage, and plan to fund my living costs with my investments.

I was hoping to travel to Europe in the next few years, but it seems like proof of employment is very important in Schengen visa applications. I obviously won't be able to provide any employment proof. I never had any previous Schengen visas either, but I have a current US and Canada tourist visa.

Is there anyone who was able to get a schengen visa when you're technically "unemployed"? I've no issues parking 20-30k Euros in my bank account for a few months to show I can afford the trip, but I won't have a steady income going forward.

I've been living in Switzerland, thus deposited all of my money to IBKR in CHF. I have then converted my CHF to USD to buy US stocks and ETFs.

I'm a dual citizen of Switzerland and UK, and want to put down a deposit on a house in the UK. I'm planning on withdrawing this amount from IBKR, however I'm not sure whether I will get banned as I've heard horror stories of people's account being blocked due to using IBKR as a place to convert money.

In this case I will have to sell some of my USD denominated ETFs, convert them to GBP and withdraw to my UK bank account. Did anyone here ever withdraw in a different currency versus what they've initially deposited, and to a different country bank account?
