Leap call option with 0% margin requirement
I’ve got a leap option that shows 0% margin requirement. I thought this was only possible if you own the stock itself. But I do not own any stocks related to option. Is this a mistake?

I am based out of India and will be funding my IB account with dollars or euros whichever works out better. But then I am looking to buy SIVE on Nasdaq Stockholm. How should I work the currency conversion? Should I just submit the order and let IB do the currency conversion or convert my usd/euro to sek and then place the order. Planning to add $1500. And any reason I cant see sive chart on my IB even though i can see 2DG chart of sivers on the german exchange.
I transferred my first funds to my IBKR account for the first time using PayID in Australia. The money has been deducted from my bank account but the status on IBKR still says pending. How long does it take for the funds to be approved? I got kind of nervous because nothing changed and I was still on that initial "get your account started" page.
If my account shows an unrealized P&L of $3K, I am assuming that means if I sell all my stock today, the difference between all my stock's intial purchasing price VS is the current selling price is $3K. Is that correct?
Some of my stocks are years old. Where do I see the initial purchasing price of the stock?
Hi everyone. I recently opened another TFSA with IBKR and used ATON to transfer all my positions from my previous broker. Today, I noticed a $125 transfer fee + $16 HST on my old broker's statement. Can I get this transfer fee reimbursed by IBKR?
Hey everyone! Quick question regarding market data and trading permissions. I'm trying to look at a Greek stock on the app, but I can't see the charts or live prices for it.
When I go into the settings to look for a market data subscription for the Greek market (Athens Stock Exchange), there isn't one listed at all.
I can see the stock ticker when I search for it in the app, but does the lack of a market subscription mean we can never actually buy/trade Greek stocks on IBKR? Or am I missing a specific trading permission or bundle in the portal? Some other Greek stocks (Alpha Bank SA ATH) are having the price but not chart data. Appreciate any help.
I haven't been restricted yet but I did some research and heard you needed permission to buy international shares. I am from Australia and have a bunch of US ETFs and company stocks I want to buy such as QQQM, VOO and many more. I know I need permission to be able to make those trades but I initially said I had zero years experience in stock trading and had traded zero stocks which is true but I did say I had 'good knowledge' which tbh is probably a bit inaccurate. My questions is, will my permission be rejected if I based on this experience? If so, is it okay if I lie and change my level of experience that I originally said during my application in my settings and say I have 1 year experience and have traded multiple stocks (even though I haven't)? I'm worried I'll get flagged or possibly even restricted if IBKR looks into it and worried I might be breaking compliance agreements.
I am relocating back to India from US(H1B)…thinking of opening IBKR account and move brokerage account to it from Wells Fargo.
Any difference if I open from US address or India? In terms of investment options/customer service or taxation?
Hi!
I am an EU Citizen (Hungary) living and working in UAE. Wanted to open an account at IB Ireland as EU citizen, to use tax free accounts (TBSZ) reserved for Hungarians as a tax resident of Hungary.
IB refused to open the account and diverted me to IB LLC which is the US operation.
Not sure why. I want to invest as a EU resident in EUR, under my HU tax residency in the long term tax free account.
Any support / comment would be appreciated.
As per the title, I want to disable the Mobile Authenticator feature so I can configure a new app to handle mobile authentication. It doesn't look intuitive to do so... please help.
Hey everyone, I’m trying to upgrade my IBKR cash account to a regular Margin account. Last time I submitted the request, it got rejected because my declared net worth in my financial profile was lower than my actual account balance, hadn’t updated it since I opened the account. That triggered a 30-day cooldown before I can retry.
Now its done and i dont want to try before i make sure everything is correct
I updated my network and my income but I didn’t find any information about the specification to convert to margin
So is there a minimum net worth?
Is there anything else I need to update before I submit to avoid another rejection?
Thanks
I’m in the process of setting up an Interactive Brokers account, and it’s been dragging on for weeks now.
Every couple of days they come back asking for another document or another piece of information. I don’t mind providing whatever they need, but why not just ask for everything in one go instead of stretching it out over weeks?
Anyway, today I checked my LinkedIn and noticed someone from Interactive Brokers had viewed my profile. Is that considered normal as part of their verification process, or is that a bit unusual? It honestly felt a little creepy.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? And do you find that much of a due dilligence normal?
I have an option roll like below. I found that IB won't fill, same price or even worse price, Fidelity can fill. Question, did I do anything wrong in the code/setting? Or Fidelity is just better at filling the order?
expiry1 = '20260712'
expiry2 = '20260712'
put_lo = Option('XXXX', expiry1, 4.5, 'P', 'SMART', '100', 'USD')
put_hi = Option('XXXX', expiry2, 5.0, 'P', 'SMART', '100', 'USD')
ib.qualifyContracts(put_lo, put_hi)
ib.sleep(2)
roll_combo = Contract(secType='BAG', symbol='XXXX', exchange='SMART', currency='USD')
leg1 = ComboLeg(conId=put_lo.conId, ratio=1, action='BUY', exchange='SMART')
leg2 = ComboLeg(conId=put_hi.conId, ratio=1, action='SELL', exchange='SMART')
roll_combo.comboLegs = [leg1, leg2]
current_limit_price = -abs(0.35)
filled = False
order = LimitOrder('BUY', 1, current_limit_price)
order.tif = 'DAY'
order.transmit = True
order.algoStrategy = "Adaptive"
order.algoParams = [TagValue("adaptivePriority", "Urgent")]
trade = ib.placeOrder(roll_combo, order)
ib.sleep(6)
what IBKR market data subscriptions do I need for options day trading? Is it these 2? Or do I need to buy the networks and opra seperatly ?
Hi,
is it possible to transfer shares from one IBKR account (personal account) to another IBKR account (company account), so account holder is different? Has anyone had experience with this type of transfer?
The location is Europe/Germany.
Hi all, recently I noticed I have been using margin to purchase some stocks without any warning. How do I turn off the use margin feature. Can any kind soul help me out?
I sold a specific lot of shares a few days ago (the one with the highest price) so now the current average price should be lower, but it's still showing the old average price. I've since bought more shares too and the updated average is still calculated using the old one.
I've done the calculation manually (went to VIEW LOTS > added up what I currently have and divided by total amount of shares) and it indeed should be lower.
The tax setting was FIFO when the sale was done. I've switched it to LIFO (the lot I sold did happen to be the last one I bought at the time) after the sale and before I bought more, but it changes nothing.
(Edited to add: the profit/loss is also calculated using this wrong average so that's kinda useless now)
Anyone knows how to fix this?
There are multiple bugs related to stop limit orders. 1) sometimes the stops do not hit and the price falls through.. This is both buy and sell. In one screenshot you can see price below my stop. This failiure led to much greater losses.
In another, a buy order wasnt hit on the way up but was hit on the way down. In another screenshot a stop loss I had sold as if it was a regular limit order once armed. This happened yesterday as well. It makes it hard to trade because I never know what to expect. Any solution?
