Good morning,
I'm trying to understand the expected time for a SEPA withdrawal and what the value date actually means. For context I withdrew around 20k€ on the 13th, the value date was 17th because of unsettled funds from a trade, however they haven't arrived in the bank yet, nor their customer support can trace them (so it's not an internal verification).
I'm finding this odd because I would assume that if the status says "Sent" and the value date is 17th the bank should have them by now. Any advice on how to proceed? Is this a normal timeline for now?
Sent some funds to my account by a foreign bank wire(I am not in the US). Made the stupid mistake of posting the reference number in the space designated for the rouiting number and my bank already sent the money. Went to a bank clerk, young and dumb, was completely clueless about the situation, need to wait till tomorrow to contact my bank again.
Will the money bounce back to my bank account or is it lost? Are there any active steps I can take or is the money lost? I'm assuming the money will bounce back, because the reference number cannot be mistaken for a valid routing number?
I'm having an issue today. When I buy market on MNQ, i get filled at a price below market. And my position shows immediately in profit. Like now I purchase buy market 1 contract MNQ and straight away I see profit 80 USD and my entry is below market.
when i close out the position, it seems to accurately calculate the value won/lost but it's confusing.
I have an IBKR account with Interactive Brokers Ireland Limited (IBIE).
I’m trying to properly understand how protected my portfolio would be if IBIE/IBKR were to become insolvent.
My main concern is being able to quantify my exposure/risk, rather than getting vague answers like “some of your positions may be held with IBLLC”.
Specifically, I’d like to know:
I’ve already checked my Activity Statement and the IBIE “List of Counterparties Where Client Assets May Be Held”, but neither tells me which specific positions are held with which custodian.
Thanks!
Hey everybody,
I signed into IBRK today and got the prompt to set up the 2FA authentication method and on my phone, set up the passkey using my passwords app in the iphone, however now when I try to log in on my computer, it says "🔐 Use your Passkey device" and the button to authenticate under it, however the authenticate button does not do anything. I've attached a photo of what it looks like as well.
Does anyone know what im doing wrong here?
I recently moved from Robinhood to IBKR because I thought the margin interest rate would be cheaper at IBKR. After making the move, I realized that while IBKR used to have lower margin rates, but now its current rate is actually higher than Robinhood’s.
I typically borrow around $200K in margin, so the interest rate difference is meaningful for me.
I mostly invest in stocks and trade reasonably actively, but I also have a demanding full-time job, so I’m not going to spend hours every day staring at the screen.
I know IBKR has better analysis tools. Are there other advantages of IBKR?
I’m seriously considering moving back to Robinhood. Would love to hear opinions from people who use both, especially those carrying a relatively large margin balance.
Been trading for a while now, and I've seen a lot of people come and go. It's almost never about the strategy. Most experienced traders have a workable edge. What kills people is usually one of three things, and they're sneakier than you'd think:
Risk management doesn't fail suddenly — it erodes. The rules that kept you safe at small size get quietly bent as your account grows. Bigger position sizes creep in, you start making "just this once" exceptions. Nobody blows up because they didn't know the rules. They blow up because they stopped following them without noticing.
Discipline breaks after winning streaks, not losing ones. Everyone tightens up after a drawdown — the pain forces you to. It's the overconfidence after a good run that gets people. That's usually when the account-ending trade happens, not during a rough patch.
You stop reviewing trades once you're "good enough." Early on you analyze every loss. Once you're consistently green, it's easy to get lazy about it — and that's exactly when the market shifts under you and your edge starts decaying quietly.
None of this is groundbreaking advice. But I think most blowups trace back to one of these three, not to a bad strategy.
Anyone else notice this in themselves or people they know? What's actually gotten you at your worst moments — was it risk, discipline, or just going stale?
Anyone notice IBKR Canada bill payment funding method is super fast now? I used to need to send the payment fairly early in the day to get it by morning of next business day but now I’ve sent it as late as 2AM ET and got the funding by 9AM ET the same day with Wealthsimple and EQ as the sending bank. Maybe it’s a WS and EQ improvement as I haven’t tested sending it that late with BMO yet but it’s been pretty reliably getting funds next biz day morning as well if I send before BMO’s bill payment daily deadline. This basically makes the bill payment method a no brainer for funding CAD into IBKR Canada accounts since it avoids the long holds with EFT
I recently moved to Canada and have USD sitting in a US bank account. I’m looking to transfer the money to my IBKR Canada account while keeping it in USD, rather than converting it to CAD (Goal is to invest in US ETFs)
For anyone who has done this:
What’s the cheapest/easiest way to transfer USD from a US bank to IBKR Canada?
Is a US ACH transfer possible, or does IBKR Canada require a wire?
If using a wire, are there any fees on either side?
Does IBKR Canada provide US routing/account details that allow a domestic US transfer?
Any issues with sending USD to IBKR Canada from a US bank after becoming a Canadian resident?
Would especially appreciate recent experiences and the exact process you used
I have a US IBKR account and want to internally transfer ~$5k USD to a friend's IBKR account in Singapore, who'll then withdraw it to their DBS account (USD-capable, so no conversion needed).
Questions for anyone who's done this:
I tried to login with my credentials but with no success. I tried resetting it but with no luck it's giving me error PREC09. I tried seeking advice from customer support also with no luck since the information to contact them are not available. Depressed and money lost. Have no idea what to do since I can't contact them.
People told me to always use tiered pricing but I still don't understand the difference between those two and how it works
The remote ibkr gateway asked me to insert my security key and touch it. How is it possible?
Has anyone withdrawn USD from IBKR to a QNB Egypt USD account?
I want to know:
Thanks!
I sold a SPX Index option Iron Condors for credit. Lately, the trade history is showing the credit received with a minus sign, then the commission is making the absolute number bigger. It should be 160 (gross) credit received, Commission: 9.70, Net Incl.Commission: 150.30. Instead it is showing Total -160 and Net Incl Commission -169.70 as per above screenshot. Others must have this problem I can not be the only one...
I have a problem regarding identity verification. The code isn't sent to my phone number and I try it 6-10 times on different times and it doesn't work.
Why is there no precautionary settings for buy and sell separately? If I intend to buy 500$ worth of options, I do not want to mistakenly buy 5000$ or enter the wrong quantity but when trying to sell/take profits or set a stop loss, it is crucial to be able to bypass the precautionary settings for the sell order.
How do you deal with that specially when trading options?
I'm on the Pro account of TWS MacOS and I cannot for the life of me find a way to display Upcoming ER dates in the Watchlist.
I found some older Reddit posts mentioning: "WSH corporate event calendar section in the list of available columns"
But that doesn't exist at all. I don't see anything like that. Am I missing some market data subscription?
Has this feature been completely removed on the latest version?
Hello everyone,
Has anyone here had experience transferring their assets from Freedom24 to IBKR?
How does the process work, and are there any potential pitfalls or things I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance!
