Bought ~€20k of WEBN on IBKR with a market order and got filled ~2.8% above the price I saw. What did I do wrong?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to IBKR and just made my first big ETF purchase, and I think I paid too much. I'd like to understand what went wrong and how to do it better next time.

What I did:

- Manually converted CZK to EUR on IBKR first, so I had about €20,435 in EUR cash.

- Bought WEBN via the IBKR Android app.

- Used a Market order, time in force Day, whole shares, with a small cash buffer for commission.

- I placed the order at around 14:30 CET on 05.10.2026.

What happened:

- The price shown when I submitted was about €12.94 per share.

- My average fill price came out at €13.30 per share, about 2.8% higher.

My questions:

  1. Is a gap this big normal for a market order on this ETF, or did I make a mistake?

  2. What order type would you use to buy about €20k of an ETF at the best possible price without waiting days for a target price?

  3. What do you check before placing the order?

  4. Is there a best time of day to buy European ETFs, or times to avoid (open, close, lunch)?

  5. Would splitting the purchase into several smaller orders help, or does it just add commissions?

  6. Should I choose a different exchange listing in IBKR to get a tighter spread?

  7. Is there a way to see the fill details in the app, so I can tell whether the price moved before my order or I got filled in pieces at rising prices?

Any advice or past experience with a similar situation would help a lot. Thanks!

Best way to convert ~500,000 CZK to EUR for buying WEBN on IBKR?

Hi everyone,

I'm based in the Czech Republic and plan to invest around 500,000 CZK (roughly €20,000) into WEBN via IBKR as a lump sum. I'm trying to find the cheapest way to get from CZK to EUR and would love to hear from people who have done something similar.

The options I'm considering:

  1. Convert in Revolut (Standard plan), then send EUR to IBKR. As far as I can tell, I'd pay about a 0.5% fee on everything above the free monthly limit, so around €100.

  2. Activate the free 2-month Revolut Premium trial first. But I've seen conflicting info on whether there's still a fee above $10,000 on Premium, and my amount is above that.

  3. Send CZK directly to IBKR and convert there, either manually or via auto-conversion. On paper this looks the cheapest, at around 6€ on my amount.

My questions:

- Is option 3 really the cheapest in practice? Has anyone converted a similar amount from CZK to EUR on IBKR, and how did the final rate compare to the ECB/CNB reference rate on the day?

- Manual conversion vs auto-conversion: which would you use for ~€20k? I understand auto-conversion only works cleanly on cash accounts, and a margin account can go negative and accrue interest. Is that right?

- Does IBKR accept CZK deposits directly? What does your bank charge for the transfer, and how long did it take to arrive?

- How long did the conversion take to settle before you could buy the ETF?

- Is there a cheaper route I haven't thought of?

Please note that I am not looking for investment advice on whether to buy the ETF, just the cheapest way to handle the currency conversion.

Anyone that has had similar experience and would be willing to share some numbers under the post or via dm, I would be very happy to hear! Many thanks in advance!

What to do with my life savings

Hi guys, I am in a situation where I cannot decide what to do, so I would like to hear some other opinions, that might help me see a different perspective that I haven't seen so far. Sorry in advance for the long text.

I am currently living in a European country that doesn't use € as a currency. In the country's currency, I have about 85k€ parked in some savings accounts, that return on average around 3.8%, and 15% of the earnings is taxed on a monthly basis, once I get the interest.

Back in June, I also put 19.5k€ as a lump sum on WEBN via IBKR, and it has already reached around 20.5k€ four months later, which is a very nice thing to see.

The plan is to move with my wife to Luxembourg in couple years, and then after another couple of years of settling there and saving up, we'd like to buy a house in some small town (either in Lux or some neighbor countries).

Of course, this is just how we wish things to go, but we might not find the right opportunity at the time, or at least not both of us at the same time, so there is also the scenario where we stay in the country we are and buy some property here instead.

If you were in my position, what would you do with all these savings I have?

On the one hand, even though I get around 3.5% net returns on my savings, I know that is not beating inflation and my money is losing value on a yearly basis. I also know it would definitely be better in the long term if I invested it all in my all world ETF, which I am doing with a 25-30 years horizon.

On the other hand, if I put majority of my savings on an ETF but our relocation plans don't end up as we wish, I am risking losing a lot of value if I need to withdraw the money for a mortgage down payment. If I hold my position on an ETF for more than 3 years, the gains are not taxed, but if I sell before the 3 year mark I'd need to pay taxes (I think 15%). I would also risk losing some money from the currency exchange itself, although that is just a risk that I cannot really calculate.

One more note, I am able to save up around 2k€ every month. So far I keep adding that money to my savings account, but my plan is to eventually start putting that money to WEBN with monthly installments, after I figure out what to do with the rest of my money.

If you were me, what would you do? I feel really confused and uncertain as to what is the most logical decision, given all parameters of our situation.

Many thanks in advance for spending your time reading this and any advice is welcome!

WEBN lump sum investment

Hi everyone, I am new in investments, no active portfolio.

I have about 20k € that I want to invest in a lump sum in WEBN ETF via IBKR (I am also considering DCA, but lump sum seems like a better option for me).

I also want to start investing ~2k € per month, and the plan is to not touch this money for the next 20 years.

I see that WEBN is at all-time high right now, and I keep hearing all the news about the war etc, making me feel like it's gonna drop soon.

What would you do if you were me? Lump sum all the money now as it doesn't matter much if it drops 5-10% in a 20 year horizon? DCA with 4k per month for peace of mind? Wait a bit longer until the price drops a bit?

I know nobody can predict the future, I would just like to hear the opinion of other people, that are probably also more educated than me on the investment topic.

Many thanks in advance!
