Edit: he's a toy poodle standing at a whopping 3.8kg / ~8lb. People here seem to be split on whether he's purebred or not, which is frankly not the point of the post. It doesn't matter at all what he is. If I cared, I'd gone to a breeder instead of a rescue, but when he's obviously a poodle and people are confused just because of hair, it's just light-hearted fun.

Adopted Japhy from a small local rescue as a breeder surrender a month ago. Last 2 photos were when I first got him, with the last one being the first day. He was wearing a diaper -- common in Japan. He was never house trained, and apparently terribly matted and dirty when he was surrendered. Surprisingly, seems to be carrying no trauma whatsoever.

We think he's probably under 1 y.o. given his looks, personality and behavior. Super social, friendly, happy, smart. He loves every human and dog he's ever seen. Play biting and peeing on his front legs are his only vice.

I just LOVE the short kennel cut. So clean and cute! Great for the dog darn summer here too. Funny how so many dog owners here, poodle owners included, don't know that he's a poodle because almost all poodles here have longer hair in one of the typical cuts. I get asked all the time what kind of dog he is when we're out on walks, even before his got the summer haircut. Makes me chuckle.
