I am getting a board changed and an electrician carried out an EICR which involves many tests one of which he mentioned running 500v through the cabling.

Sockets and downstairs lighting tested okay it says 0.35ohms on the sockets average and 1.3ohms on the lighting when tested. Said they are fine to be put into a new board.

The top floor lighting has two wires which is borrowing a neutral for the lights, it all works fine on the old fuse board but said it board cant be upgraded until the upstairs lighting has a rewire which involves running a fresh cable into the loft then looping to each ceiling rose.

There is one landing light two way switched, bathroom light and 3 bedroom lights.

I just wondered how much that would cost to do roughly?

I’m getting in an electrician to swap the sockets and light switches and I’m looking for decent quality, what brand do you use or recommend?

Within reason don’t mind spending more money for quality.

I know MK used to have a good reputation but have heard their quality has declined, the current switches are branded with “Ashley” and are donkeys years old.

Finish wise it would be nice to get Matt black, switches are earthed so can go with metal.

I’m getting an electrician in to replace this board, just wondered how a modern consumer unit can be replaced here, will they mount a board behind it and put in some trunking?

I really don’t like the way the cables are slung in.
