Looking for advice buying vintage .22's

I specifically collect old guns. Most of mine are 60 years old or more. I've had to work on them, clean them, and all the other stuff you need to do sometimes to get a very old well used rifle to work like new. I own 2 vintage .22 pump rifles (Remington model 12, and Stevens model 75) I won't ger into specifics, but while the looked good and seemed to function before I bought them, they are piles of garbage. (I can go into more details in comments if anyone wants.)

I want to replace them with another pump action .22, but I don't think i know what to look for in a proper functioning .22 rifle. Is there any advice on how to check these, or what generally to look for?

Thank you for your time!

Advice on buying vintage .22 rifles

I want a cool slide action .22 rifle that functions without being a nightmare to service. I buy a lot of older guns and usually know what to look for in a good functioning gun. However, that can't be said for .22 rifles. I own 4 .22's (Mossberg intl. 715t, Remington model 6, Remington model 12, and Stevens model 75).

The Mossberg is an AR style of gun, and it is flawless. I cannot even take it apart without devoting multiple hours, so it doesn't get cleaned. The Remington model 6 is a single shot rifle that just works flawlessly every time. The Remington model 12, and Stevens model 75 are slide action rifles, and are hot garbage. They appear to be in great condition otherwise, but either refuse to feed entirely, or are just plain inconsistent with its operation. The model 12 can't be charged 100% to rear of travel, so it won't feed. The model 75 is just inconsistent all around. It will load, fire, and eject cartridges whenever it feels like it, not when you tell it to.

Im just looking for advice on what to actually look for in these rifles. I want a decent slide action, but I'm starting to believe they are just garbage rifles. And feedback is appreciated! Thank you.
